Female AFCON 2016: Egypt records victory over Zimbabwe in controversial circumstances 0
At the end of an intensive game marked by attacks and counter attacks that systematically ended prematurely with Egypt scoring a last minute goal to grab the three points of the day. The goal came at the 82nd minute and two minutes later, Zimbabwe equalized but was cancelled by the central referee. Egypt therefore won the match after the lone valid goal of the encounter.
The victory propels Egypt from the bottom to the second position in group A behind Cameroon. According to the rankings after the second playing day in group A, Cameroon is first with 6 points, three goals scored, no goal conceded and two victories in two matches.
Egypt is second with three points, one goal scored, two goals conceded, one defeat and a victory. Zimbabwe and South Africa are at the third and forth spots with no goal scored, one goal conceded, a draw and a defeat in two matches for each of the teams. During the third and last day of play in the group stage, Cameroon will face Zimbabwe while South Africa will play against Egypt.
Cameroon has already qualified for the semis and will be playing to confirm its supremacy in group A, while Zimbabwe will be seeking to win at all cost in order to stand the chance of qualifying for the semi finals in the second spot. A similar battle will be fought between South Africa and Egypt with both teams seeking a victory to secure the second position.
The fate of Egypt, Zimbabwe and South Africa will be determined after day 3 matches schedule for Friday 25th November 2016. According CAF fixtures, Cameroon will play against Zimbabwe in Yaoundé while Egypt and South Africa will clash in Limbe.
