In the league of the champions, UMS of Cameroon was eliminated from the African Champions League competition despite beating the Leopard of Congo 2-1. The Cameroonians scored their first goal in the 39th minute through Rostand Kako.

The Congolese responded in the 53rd minute and returned to the mark, before conceding the second goal of Cameroon to the 59th. UMA had been beaten by 1-0 in the first leg.

In the CAF Cup, despite going down 0-1 in the first leg, Yong Sport of Bamenda qualified by beating  Defense Force of Ethiopia 2-0 yesterday in Douala.

Christian Bassogog and Danish club Aalborg will no longer be an item as the player has successfully passed the medical examination to the Chinese Henan Jinya.

Chinese media reported that the deal worth 35 million euros over a 5 years period, or 23 billion CFA francs for the duration of the contract. His net annual salary is expected to be 7 million euros, or 4.5 billion FCFA.

Winner of the last edition of the Africa Cup of Nations with Cameroon, Christian Bassogog was voted best player of the competition.

Tanzania Deputy Minister of Health, Hamisi Kigwangalla has threatened on Twitter to publish the list of homosexuals involved in the prostitution trade.

The minister’s announcement comes after the closure of health centers specialized in the fight against HIV / AIDS, which are accused of promoting homosexuality, which is illegal in the country.

On Thursday, the government announced the closure of dozens of private health centers specializing in the fight against AIDS, accused of promoting homosexuality across Tanzania.

Last year, the government launched raids against gays in bars and clubs in Dar-Es-Salaam, the country’s economic capital of nearly 10 million.

The announcement came after the governor of Dar Es Salaam published a press release on the list of drug traffickers and dealers.

The U.S. Ambassador to Cameroon, Michael S. Hoza, has described Cameroon as key to the economies of the Congo Basin. The U.S. diplomat was speaking at the “American Day” at PROMOTE in Yaounde on Thursday February 16.

Ambassador Hoza said Cameroon is the key to the entire Congo basin economy and Cameroonian youth are the key to developing their future economy.  “We believe Cameroon is the key to the entire Congo basin economy and Cameroonian youth are the key to developing their future economy,” he said during a plenary to launch the “American Day” at the exhibition Fair.

“We want to engage in the fight for Cameroon’s future—that is promoting the peace and security of the Cameroonian people by giving opportunities to the youths and unleashing their potentials for the future of Cameroon,” the Ambassador said. Some 22 American companies are exhibiting their products at the 6th edition of the major trade fair in Central Africa.

“We are bringing together corporations and entrepreneurs from all industrial sectors in order to connect Cameroonian partners with American partners,” he said before prior to a ribbon cutting ceremony of the American pavilion at the fair.

The U.S diplomat was accompanied by five government ministers; Luc Mafloir Mbarga Atangana of Trade, Prof Laurent Serge Etoundi Ngoa of Small and Medium Size Enterprises, Marie Therese Obama of Women’s Empowerment and the Family, Joseph Dion Ngute of External Relations in charge of the Commonwealth and Louis Max Ayina, secretary of state for Public Works.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has said incumbent president; Issa Hayatou has received the support of South African President, Jacob Zuma ahead of elections in the African football governing body. The President Jacob Zuma endorsement was made public on Saturday February 18, 2017, during an audience the South African leader granted the incumbent president of the Confederation of African Football at his residence in Pretoria.

The corrupt and inefficient South African ANC politician who keeps surviving numerous vote of no confidence assured Issa Hayatou of South Africa’s “flawless support” for his candidacy for a new term at the head of CAF. The audience included a cream of Zuma’s men noted for tarnishing the reputation of the ANC: Minister of Sport and Recreation, Fikile Mbalula, South African Football Association president, Danny Jordaan, the President of the Mamelodi Sundowns football club and Patrice Motsepe.

The support comes a week after the Council of Southern African Football Associations (Cosafa) said it had endorsed Madagascar’s FA president, Ahmad Ahmad as candidate for the continental soccer body. The elections have been slated for March in Addis Ababa. Cameroon’s Issa Hayatou known as the African football dictator is seeking an eight mandate at the helm of the African soccer body which he has managed since 1998.

All Southern Cameroonians in North America have been invited to a mass demonstration on Friday, March 3rd, 2017 at the  Dag Hammarskjod Plaza  in New York .This demonstration will take place between 11 am and 2:00 pm.

Our senior political commentator and editor, Soter Tarh Agbaw-Ebai opined that the area chosen to host the event is significant. Mr. Agbaw-Ebai pointed out that it was Dag Hammarskjod who as UN Secretary General did declare French Cameroun independent under Prime Minister Ahmadou Ahidjo.

West Cameroonians residing in the DC Metropolis have been told to register in order to help the organizing committee know how many buses to hire. A statement from Chairman Elvis Kometa noted that further modalities will be given later.

Barack Obama has been rated as the 12th best American president a month after leaving the office, according to a new survey. C-SPAN’s 2017 presidential historians survey published on Friday put the first African American president between former heads of state Woodrow Wilson (No. 11) and James Monroe (No. 13) and outranking Bill Clinton (No. 15)

The 91 historians who were consulted for the survey gave Obama and 42 other commanders in chief a score of one to 10 on 10 different “qualities of presidential leadership,” including “economic management,” “vision/setting an agenda,” “relations with Congress,” “crisis leadership” and “public persuasion.”

He ranked 10th on public persuasion, 15th on crisis leadership, 8th on economic management, 7th on moral authority, and 24th on international relations. Obama was the 19th president in terms of administrative skills and 39th in terms of relations with Congress. The former president, who left the office with a notable 57 percent job approval rating, ranked third when it came to pursuing equal justice for all.

“Although 12th is a respectable overall ranking, one would have thought that former President Obama’s favorable rating when he left office would have translated into a higher ranking in this presidential survey,” said Edna Greene Medford, a Howard University history professor and one of the survey’s advisers.

“But, of course, historians prefer to view the past from a distance, and only time will reveal his legacy,” she added. Topping the overall list was Abraham Lincoln, the 16th American 16th president known for abolishing slavery and leading the Union through the Civil War.

George Washington, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Theodore Roosevelt and Dwight D. Eisenhower ranked below Lincoln. The country’s 15th president James Buchanan, whose presidency preceded the Civil War, took the bottom spot.

A growing number of Democrats are openly saying that Donald Trump may not be mentally fit to serve as the president of the United States. Mental health professionals have already warned that President Trump is showing “classic signs” of mental illness, including “malignant narcissism.” A Washington, DC-based newspaper, The Hill, reported on Friday that several Democratic lawmakers are also now questioning President Trump’s mental health.

In a floor speech this week, Earl Blumenauer, a Representative from Oregon, demanded a review of the Constitution’s procedures for removing a president if he is mentally unstable. The Congressman said the 25th Amendment of the Constitution falls short when it comes to mental or emotional fitness for the office of the president.

Senator Al Franken from Minnesota told CNN during a weekend interview that Trump’s mental health is a source of great concern for some of his Republican colleagues as well. Asked by the host if it is “true that Republican colleagues of yours express concerns about President Trump’s mental health,” Franken replied, “A few… There’s not a majority of them.”

Meanwhile, a Representative from California, Ted Lieu, is set to introduce a bill that would require the presence of a psychiatrist or psychologist in the White House to check on the president. The Democrats argue that Trump’s habit of making demonstrably false claims show that something is wrong with him.  President Trump at a press conference on Thursday claimed that he had the biggest Electoral College victory since former Republican President Ronald Reagan, for example, while his margin was lower than either of President Barack Obama’s wins.

Blumenauer told The Hill he started talking about the review of the 25th Amendment because Trump has repeatedly made ludicrous claims, such as insisting that it wasn’t raining during his speech on Inauguration Day on January 20 at Capitol Hill when it was. “It’s not normal behavior. I don’t know anybody in a position of responsibility that doesn’t know if they’re being rained on. And nobody I work with serially offers up verifiably false statements on an ongoing basis,” he said.

For decades, psychologists and psychiatrists have kept silent about their diagnostic opinions of public figures in accordance with ethical rules set out by the American Psychiatric Association (APA). However, thousands of mental health professionals have signed a Change.org petition declaring the US president “is mentally ill and must be removed.”

Thirty-five psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers have sent a letter to The New York Times saying that “the grave emotional instability indicated by Mr. Trump’s speech and actions makes him incapable of serving safely as president.” Psychologists have also begun questioning Trump’s state of mind because of the type of temperament and behavior he has displayed during his public appearances. Most recently, John D. Gartner, a practicing psychotherapist who taught psychiatric residents at Johns Hopkins University Medical School, said Trump “is dangerously mentally ill and temperamentally incapable of being president,” according to The Independent.

Gartner believes Trump shows signs of “malignant narcissism,” which is defined as a combination of narcissism, antisocial personality disorder, aggression and sadism. But some other mental health professionals are concerned that political actors suggesting that their opponent has psychological problems risks stigmatizing people with actual mental illnesses. “I think the politicization is troubling,” said Joshua Miller, a psychologist at the University of Georgia whose research focuses on pathological personality traits and personality disorders. “We certainly wouldn’t want individuals to use mental illness as a weapon to harm others.”

Congressman Lieu however argued that the mental health of a person who is in control of the nation’s nuclear codes must be scrutinized. “I think it is a legitimate issue to raise. I am not a mental health professional, so I don’t know in terms of any sort of medical expertise on this. But I do see and hear the same things that other people see and hear, and a lot of people have concluded that what’s going on is not normal. So what do I do with that as a member of Congress?” he told The Hill. “Anyone who can launch 4,000 nuclear weapons in minutes absolutely should be questioned on any matter related to their physical and mental health,” he stated.

Southern Cameroons Uprising: Resistance rather than collaboration is the only way 1

Ever since the Southern Cameroons revolution started in 2016, the term “resistance” has been everywhere-thanks to the Cameroon Anglophone Civil Society Consortium.  The people of the Buea and Bamenda provinces of West Cameroon are now reading from the same script-thanks to the Cameroon Anglophone Civil Society Consortium. We now know that the Biya Francophone Beti Ewondo regime is not as powerful as we earlier thought and that it has cabinet ministers who do not think properly. The interim leaders have made it very clear that the policies of La Republique du Cameroun must be disrupted and a new, stronger Southern Cameroons must coalesce.

When an oppressive military such as that of La Republique takes over a peaceful nation, the opposition gravitates towards two ends of a continuum. On one side are those for resistance and on the other, collaboration. Attempts by Barrister Bobga Harmony and some Southern Cameroons activists in the US aimed at creating a Consortium in the Diaspora correctly points out that some individuals want to collaborate with Biya, despite the existential threat to the struggle.

But it’s not just Barrister Bobga Harmony and his friends in the US who are willing to sway towards Biya and his Francophone regime. The Anglophone Diaspora is also guilty. Francophone troops invaded your home land, raped and killed your children, arrested hundreds including the leaders of the trade unions representing the interest of the future generations, humiliated prominent elites from your constituency, disconnected internet services, militarized your country and their leader turns around and signs a decree that Francophone should start speaking English to appease you and many of you are now saying that it is business as usual!!!! This is not resistance, not even close.

When the Germans invaded France in 1940, every French citizen had a choice to make. Many rejected the Nazi occupation. They banded together to undermine enemy control, through intelligence gathering, noncooperation, and sabotage. The French Resistance was integral to Allied victory and the end of the Nazi state. This is what the Cameroon Anglophone Civil Society Consortium is asking from Southern Cameroonians.

Like some of the French who decided to seek peace and coexist with the occupation, Musonge, Atanga Nji and the many CPDM political elites who are willing to work with a Head of State that history knows is irredeemable can establish a puppet regime of Anglophones at Bonaberi in Douala just like some of the French did by creating the Vichy government.

Given how much progressive work and resources has gone into this struggle, it is disturbing to see that we do not have a radio station operating from areas such as Calabar and Ikom in Nigeria. To have a “wait and see” approach is a privilege many Francophone including Biya do not have. Women, children, the old and the unemployed are under attack now in West Cameroon. Accepting any form of dialogue with the regime as legitimate is to sanction their oppression.

Total resistance is the only way forward. But the frontlines need dedicated people.  Barrister Bobga was told not to meet with Baba Danpullo, he did!! By escaping to the US, he is no longer a front liner so he too should simply follow the instructions of the interim leaders of the Cameroon Anglophone Civil Society Consortium. This struggle is not about UNESCO and the resumption of schools in West Cameroon, it is about the dignity of the English speaking Cameroonian.

Schools should remain closed, ghost towns should be intensified and Anglophone businesses should not trade with La Republique. If you want peace, you should be prepared for war.  The economic and political structures that hold the 84 year old Biya and his ideology up should be under threat. If the SCNC, SCAPO and the numerous Southern Cameroons Diaspora groups are unwilling to resist Biya and his Francophone Beti Ewondo regime, then it is on the Cameroon Anglophone Civil Society Consortium to organize us and proceed with action.

Human Rights Watch (HRW) has revealed details of the execution of at least 32 civilians by an armed group in the lawless heart of the Central African Republic late last year. The HRW said in a report on Thursday that militants from the Union for Peace in the Central African Republic (UPC), a splinter group from a rebel force in neighboring Chad, had killed 32 civilians and captured fighters in the town of Bakala in December 2016.

The New York-based rights group said 25 people had been killed after they were called to a school for an alleged meeting, while seven other men were executed as they were returning from a nearby gold mine. “Accounts of the incidents were provided by a survivor and eight witnesses, including five men who were forced to help dispose of the bodies,” said the HRW in a statement.

A representative of the rights group in the Africa region also denounced the killing as “brazen war crimes by UPC fighters who feel free to kill at will.” In January, the UPC denied that its militants had been involved in any form of killing in Bakala region. “Soldiers in the UPC cannot execute civilians or prisoners … What you have heard about the UPC are lies,” said Ali Darassa, UPC’s commander since the formation of the group in September 2014.

Experts from the United Nations had earlier warned that armed groups were using the lawlessness in tracts of the CAR to maintain their interests, ranging from control of gold and other mines, cattle rustling and highway robbery. “They have taken the place of the judicial apparatus and [they] terrify the population,” Marie-Therese Keita-Bocoum, an independent UN expert on human rights in the CAR said, adding that “armed groups reign as masters over more than 60 percent of the territory, benefiting from total impunity.”

France and the UN’s mission in the CAR, known as MINUSCA, have intervened militarily in the African country to end large-scale massacres and restore relative order to the capital, Bangui. However, insecurity continues to grip swaths of the territory.
