Francophone Crisis: MRC Party Condemns Arrest of Leaders ⁰

The Movement for the Renaissance of Cameroon (MRC) has denounced the arrest of its leaders including the National Chairman, Prof Maurice Kamto. The man widely believed to have won the October 7 presidential election was arrested on Monday in Douala with some of the members of the National Executive Committee of his party.

Cameroon Concord News understands the President-elect was presiding over a political bureau meeting with members of his executive council including Christian Penda Ekoka, Albert Dzongang and Alain Fogué Tedom.

Prof Maurice Kamto’s arrest follows that of his campaign manager Paul Eric Kingue and Cameroonian musician turned activist Gaston Serval ABE popularly known as (Valsero) that was carried out two days ago. Local media sources have also reported that several other activists have been arrested.

Prof Kamto and his top aides are currently being held in custody at the Yaoundé judicial police post in connection with the vandalism in the Cameroon embassies in France and Germany. Barrister Akere Muna who was one of the presidential candidates of the 7 October 2018 polls has condemned the arrest and demanded their immediate release.
