The over 200 newly recruited holiday job seekers of the Buea council annual holiday jobs programme have been told to uphold high moral rectitude and civic responsibility in the execution of their duties. Mayor Ekema Patrick Esunge addressed the temporal council workers on Friday August 5th, 2016 and urged them to be law abiding and respect the terms and specifications stated within the context of the 2016 Buea council annual holiday jobs. The forum provided a unique opportunity for the participants to have a one and one exchanges with the kingpin of the Buea municipality and examined possible ways to render the one month period less tedious.

The mayor of Buea called on the group who are predominantly students to be committed, respectful and above all improved on the sanitary state of the city. Ewily William, a UB student, on behalf of the group requested for rain coats so as to be able to cope with torrential down pour of rain. Another speaker was Njei Sandrine, a UB student of the Department of English, who requested the mayor to give her an insight into her job description.

Mola Ekema encouraged the holiday job seekers to demonstrate a high sense of punctuality and duty consciousness and reminded them that they were future leaders of the Buea municipality. The over one hour meeting was attended by deputy mayors and some staff of the Buea council.

The South West Chiefs Conference has agreed to hold elections soonest to get a new leader to run the affairs of the association. The Bantu, semi Bantu and Tikar traditional authorities announced the decision on Wednesday August 3rd 2016 following an executive committee meeting that held in Buea the capital of the South West region.

The men with divine power revealed that the chief who will succeed Nfon V.E.Mukete will be known on September the 16th and 17th 2016. Cameroon Concord News understand the custodians of tradition from across the South West region will converged in Buea not only to elect a new president but also renew the mandate of other members of the executive committee for the next two years.However, a hue and cry has erupted deep within the Fako Chiefs Conference on who to replace Chief V.E.Mukete.

The president of the Fako Chiefs Conference, HRH Mokoto Njie, told newsmen in Buea that all was now set for SWECC to get a new leadership. Chief Mokoto Njie hinted that whatever happens in September, the winner will be a Fako citizen. Correspondingly, Chief David Molinge of Muea-Buea was quoted as saying the choice of Chief Njombe Johnson Njoke would weaken the credibility of the chiefs as he is unfit and low profile for the witty SWECC presidency. Chief Molinge even suggested that another candidate could well represent Fako in order to raise the reputation and credibility of the union to commendable standards.

We gathered that Chief Njombe Johnson also did launch a vicious attack on Chief Molinge describing him as being incompetent, not decent and an ordinary third class chief. The new SWECC management would have a daunting task to cleanse the chieftaincy sector off charlatans and restore the lost credibility and nobility deserved by royal institutions.

The same is true for the North West Fon’s Union that has been unable to replace its current leadership over claims of constitutional amendment. Fon Teche Njei who also moonlights as a Senator, is still the strongman at the helm of NOWEFU.

Cameroon under 17 Indomitable Lions have thrashed the Arambi stars of Kenya 7 goals to nil in a match counting for the second round of qualification for the 12th edition of the Africa Cup of Nation 2017 in Madagascar.

The encounter was staged in Limbe in the South West region today.

The cadets will now travel on the 20th of August to Nairobi Kenya for a return leg. Kenya will need to score eight goals to qualify. Lets hope they have a new Ambrose Ayoyi.

Fear of Anglophone Diaspora: Biya Regime’s secret reason for not accepting dual nationality 1

Many have argued that the North West/South West divide remains a Francophone political creation. It could be true.  However, the people of the South West and North West Regions have fundamental political and cultural differences. But this does not mean that the political leaders of Anglophone Cameroon cannot work together for the common good of their people.

Dr. Churchill Monono Ewumbue, South West political strategist and Special Adviser to President Biya while serving as Secretary of the South West Elite Association, Yaounde Chapter suggested to the leadership of the North West Elite Association that the first step towards solving the Anglophone problem was to solve the South West minority issue.

Another prolific South West opinion leader, Mwalimu George Ngwane upheld the same opinion and even sounded a note of caution that something has to be done and done in a hurry to reunite the Anglophone elite and politicians in order for English speaking Cameroonians to be able to face the challenges of the  21st century Cameroon.

It is generally accepted that Anglophones most fundamentally great intellects are all in the Diaspora. The likes of Dr. Simon Munzu, Prof. Carlson Anyangwe, Lawrence Eyong Echaw, Chief Barrister Charles Taku, Napoleon Viban, Asonglefac Nkemleke and Eric Chinje had attempted to instill some Anglo-Saxonese into a predominantly French system but were handed something like a poisoned chalice in their various departments.

During those times of economic turmoil in Cameroon, the Anglophone parents sounded like they had a mastery of what was needed to drive our nation forward. In comparison to the often civil service job seeking Francophone parents, the English speaking parents encouraged their children to migrate to the West.

The contribution made by the Anglophone Cameroon diaspora community, sending money home and providing for the retired and the elderly abandoned by the Francophone Beti-Ewondo regime, remains the articulate and reassuring voice in the Cameroon political wilderness.

To be sure, Cameroon in the 1990s had too little for too many and only the wisdom of the Cameroon Anglophone parents guaranteed continuity and this was understandable given the unprecedented scale of the economic crisis unfolding at the time. The most enduring image of that chaotic period remains that of a beaming Finance Minister Anthoine Nstimi  who in a televised press conference in Yaounde, informed Cameroonians that the “economy is booming but it is not liquid“.

Through the prism of hindsight, the great contribution made to our nation by the Anglophone diaspora such as keeping many financial institutions up and running with hard currencies from the West is largely seen by the Biya regime with suspicion. When President Biya finally sent his former acolyte, the disgraced Chief Inoni, then Prime Minister to the USA,  Inoni, following CPDM directives thanked the US government for playing host to many Cameroonians and blatantly refused to say a word of thank you to the predominantly Anglophone Cameroon diaspora in the US for remittance our nation continues to receive.

With indications that the CPDM era is drawing towards a close, the greatest issue troubling the French political arithmetic is the all-powerful Anglophone diaspora. They have agreed in principle not to make dual nationality an option in our current political dispensation as this will favour Anglophone Cameroonians the most.

At the very least, the CPDM government can be accused of poor judgement or even incompetence because of the rising number of Francophone Cameroon diaspora in places like Canada, Germany, Ireland, UK and the USA and the ever increasing Anglophone population in France—making France now the biggest and strongest SCNC stronghold in the West.

President Biya is taking the last kicks of a dying horse and for him to ensure that his legacy is not unfairly tarnished by cheap CPDM political point scoring, he should move straight and push the national assembly to accept dual nationality.

Former Saudi intelligence chief and long-time Ambassador to Washington Prince Bandar bin Sultan has been linked to an al-Qaeda operative by the co-chair of a recent US probe into the 9/11 terror incidents. The recently declassified part of the 9/11 report regarding suspected Saudi ties to some of the hijackers involved in the terror events revealed that a phone log maintained by an alleged senior al-Qaeda operative, identified as Abu Zubaydah, included the unlisted phone number of a Colorado company associated with Bandar as well as the phone number of a bodyguard working at the Saudi Embassy in Washington at the time, CNN reported Friday.

The company in Aspen, Colorado used to manage Prince Bandar’s estate in the Western US state. “Both of those numbers were unpublished, so they had to have gotten into Zubaydah’s phone book through a personal contact who knew what those numbers were and what they represented,” said former Senator Bob Graham, who co-chaired the congressional commission that compiled the 28 pages of the 9/11 report that remained secret until its release last month.

Although both US intelligence agencies, the CIA and FBI, concluded that there was no evidence that anyone from the Saudi royal family knowingly provided support for the 9/11 attacks, Graham insisted that connection between Zubaydah’s contact list and the company associated with the senior Saudi official was “one of the most stunning parts of the investigation” and worthy of further investigation.

Bandar served as the Saudi ambassador to the US from 1983 to 2005, during the administrations of Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. He later served as secretary general of Saudi Arabia’s National Security Council and the head of the kingdom’s General Intelligence Presidency, the equivalent of the CIA, until last year.

Bandar “is probably the most effective ambassador in Washington ever. Full stop,” said former CIA analyst Bruce Riedel. “He was highly regarded by every president.” The senior Saudi official was known to have the closest relationship with George H. W. Bush, in part due to Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait in the 1990 Persian Gulf War, in which Riyadh viewed the Iraqi aggression as a threat and supported the subsequent US military action.

“Bandar was in the Bush White House, I would say, every other day and in some periods every day. It was a very, very close relationship,” Riedel added. “And I think the president and Bandar genuinely liked each other.” Saudi authorities have denied allegations on their involvement in the September 2001 incidents in which nearly 3,000 people were killed in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania. Fifteen of the 19 hijackers involved in the 9/11 attacks were Saudi nationals.

An Air Algerie flight traveling to the French city of Marseille has been forced to return to Algiers due to a technical failure. The airline said the plane landed safely in the Algerian capital on Saturday around 30 minutes after takeoff, AP reported.

The carrier said that no one was injured, adding that passengers were expected to board another plane for Marseille in southern France later in the day. There is no information about what caused the plane to return to the Algeria’s capital. Earlier, reports, citing online flight tracking sources, said that the flight AH1020 put out a mid-air emergency call shortly before disappearing from radar.

Initially the flight radar showed the passenger plane turning around and heading back towards the point where it took off but before landing, it disappeared from radar, the reports added. The flight had taken off at around 1.30 p.m. local time and was due to arrive in Marseille just after 4 p.m.

A passenger plane has declared a mid-air emergency and seemingly disappeared from radar, according to reports.

The Air Algerie Boeing 737-600 took off from Algiers this afternoon on a flight to Marseille but let out an emergency call shortly after take-off.

Flight radar showed the plane turn around and head back towards the point where it took-off but before arriving, the jet disappeared from radar.

Plane tracking site Flight Radar 24 currently lists the plane’s status as “unknown”. Some flight enthusiasts have claimed the plane may have not been picked up below 17,000ft if it landed safely.

Achill Rovers footballer, Joseph N’Do’s generosity and selflessness shone through over the weekend when he donated his 2006 Eircom League winning medal to Gearóid’s Smile, for it to be auctioned to raise money for children’s cancer. The former Cameroon International footballer was one of over 400 people who took part in the Three Peak Challenge in aid of Gearóid’s Smile on Achill Island over the weekend.

Gearóid’s Smile is a children’s cancer charity which is in memory of six-year-old Gearóid Murphy from Achill who died from cancer in 2014.N’Do who made 21 appearances for Cameroon and played in the 1998 World Cup in France stunned Gearóid’s family when he presented the Eircom League medal he won in 2006 while playing for Dublin club Shelbourne. The medal will be auctioned at a later date to raise money for Gearóid’s Smile.

Generosity

Gearóid’s mother, Mary told The Mayo News that this gesture by N’Do was an example of the generosity and support which people have shown towards them.“You don’t expect things like this…you don’t expect someone to hand over their medal which they worked hard to win. It just shows you of the absolute generosity of the people and the outstanding community spirit in Achill which is second to none. People who were not able to climb made themselves available to volunteer to do something else. Everyone rallied behind the event, just the same as last year,” she said.

Gearóid would have made his First Holy Communion this year and his class in Dooagh NS presented a cheque of €100 towards the charity, which was raised from donations they received for their Communion.A huge number of people took part in the Three Peak Challenge in Saturday which involved climbing the three highest mountains on Achill Island.

The climb started at 6am with 138 people starting the first climb of Croaghan, 200 took part in the climb and walk at Slievemore while 105 completed the challenge with the climb of Minaun.Mary said they were thrilled with the turnout and thanked all the people who travelled to take part and made it an enjoyable event.

A popular South African pastor died after attempting dry fasting which the Prince of Peace did for 40 days.  The South African pastor reportedly told his followers that he would match Jesus Christ by depriving himself of food and water in the bush for 40 days.

Pastor Alfred Ndlovu, aged 44 in an attempt to break the record of Jesus Christ who fasted for 40 days, left home for the bush on June the 17, 2016.

Cameroon Intelligence Report gathered he starved himself just for 30 days and traveled to the land of his ancestors. His body was found by a passer-by who informed the police.

Pan-African Parliament: MPs hold political discourse on terrorism 0

Secretaries from more than half of African national assemblies have met in South Africa for their annual conference. The elected representatives are to discuss the benefits of ratifying African Union treaties notably the new protocol of the Pan-African Parliament.

Earlier, members of the committee on cooperation, international relations and conflict resolutions of the Pan-African Parliament were urged to improve the continent’s response to terrorism by making it a national priority.

Professors Magloire Ondoua and Vincent Ntuda Ebode from Cameroon were guest-speakers at both events.
The Pan African parliamentarians expressed outrage at repeated armed attacks on some of their colleagues. The MPs staged a protest against the violence.

The two Cameroonian Professors, Joseph Vincent Ntouda Ebode and Magloire Ondoa educated parlementarians, Secretary Generals and Presidents of parliaments of the continent on the challenges to be surmounted in the fight against terrorism. The discourse on terrorism was in view of the full activation of the legislative powers of the continental parliament.
