Nigeria panics as Aboubakar fires warning shot ⁰

Cameroon star Vincent Aboubakar is firing on all cylinders ahead of the 2018 World Cup qualifier between his national team and the Super Eagles at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.

Super Eagles defenders will have to be at their best as the Porto striker who fired a hat-trick on Sunday against Moreirense is now the leading scorer in the Portuguese Primeira Liga. His hat-trick on Sunday took his league tally for the season to four goals.

According to sports daily O Jogo, Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal scouts were among the 46,509 spectators at the Estádio Do Dragão.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Porto’s Algeria international Yacine Brahimi this summer, while Manchester United and City have monitored his progress in the past.

Juventus, two French and two Spanish clubs also sent their scouts to monitor the game between Porto and Moreirense.

Former Super Eagles coach says the Indomitable Lions will not go down easily in Uyo ⁰

Former Super Eagles coach, Austin Eguavoen is certain Nigeria’s opponents in the September 1 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier, Cameroon will not go down easily in Uyo, even as he believes the Eagles will soar over their guests. Eguavoen Eguavoen who spoke with Sports Vanguard at the Greensprings Schools, Ajah where he is heading a technical crew in charge of the 2017 Camp GTBank said, “I am sure the Eagles will win the match in Uyo. We have all played against Cameroon before. Results can swing and there is this element of luck. But I must warn, we must not drop points at home. If we win, we will be a pole position to qualify for the World Cup, which is enough motivation for our players. Our players will not want to toy with the opportunity to go to the World Cup.

“The World Cup is a stage where a player’s profile rises, his market value is enhanced and these boys (Eagles) have shown hunger and thirst for World Cup glory.” He reasoned that pressure is on the Cameroonians who are down the ladder (second behind Nigeria) with four points difference will fight to the end. “Their strength lies in the physical aspect of the game because they are physical in all departments. They are down and will want to come out and attack in order to get a respectable result. But they will respect us because if they show no respect for the Eagles they will pay dearly for that.

“Cameroon will come out to play because I know their coach, Hugo Broos back in my playing days in Belgium. He too knows most of us including late Keshi, Oliseh among others. He once handled Club Brugge, where Amokachi once played for. Hugo likes attacking football and we all saw it during the Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA Confederations Cup,” Eguavoen said.

Marseille: Clinton Njie makes it three goals in three games ⁰

Lucas Ocampos missed a late chance to score an injury-time winner and then got sent off as Marseille drew 1-1 at home to Angers. The Argentine forward latched onto a headed flick from striker Valere Germain and sprinted into the penalty area.

But rather than shoot, Ocampos cut inside from the left but lost control of the ball. As he tried to get it back, he recklessly lunged into defender Romain Thomas, catching him just below the knee. Earlier, Clinton Njie made it three goals in three games to put Marseille ahead in the 17th minute.

The Cameroon forward showed great awareness to collect a loose ball in the penalty area following a cross from the right, swivel past two. Striker Karl Toko Ekambi equalized for Angers in the 71st.

Isolated Biya regime could be at risk of losing Africa Cup of Nations ⁰

August 18 – Cameroon will learn on September 23 whether it can go ahead and stage the first expanded African Nations Cup finals in 2019 or whether it will have to step down through lack of facilities. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has called a meeting of its executive committee in Accra where officials will be presented with the report of next week’s inspection visit to Cameroon by a panel of independent experts.

Cameroon officials are dismayed at recent comments by CAF president Ahmad Ahmad which appeared to question the country’s ability to host a 24-team finals even before the inspection team has set foot in the country. This is perceived by some as a deliberate vendetta against Ahmad’s long-serving Cameroonian predecessor Issa Hayatou,
Under revised rules, the host nation for the Continent’s flagship event will have to provide a minimum of six stadiums: two of 15,000 seats, two of 20,000 and two of 40,000 seats for the opening and closing ceremonies. If Cameroon’s candidacy is ruled out, a new bid process would probably be launched in the autumn with Algeria, Morocco and Ivory Coast potential interested parties.

CAF has faced several precedents of host nations being switched late on. The latest example was in 2015 when Morocco pulled out because of fears over the Ebola virus – the country was banned for its stance – and was replaced by Equatorial Guinea. Two years earlier, South Africa supplanted Libya which was embroiled in civil war.

With Morocco having forged strong links with Ahmad and having hosted a number of CAF meetings and Ahmad visits, they are the strong favourites to pick up 2019 finals if (or seemingly more likely when) it is stripped from Cameroon.

La Republique’s AFCON of Shame: Eto’o meets with the Vice President of CAF ⁰

The Second Vice President of CAF, Constant Omari has met with Cameroonian football legend Samuel Eto’o to discuss CAF’s position on the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

The CAF boss indicated that his meeting with Samuel Eto’o was to explain the reasons behind Ahmad Ahmad’s declaration that Cameroon was not ready to host the 2019 AFCON. To him, CAF’s president was concerned about the security and safety of the African players and delegations to be sojourn in Cameroon during the football tournament.

Constant Omari added that the pronouncement was just part of CAF’s intention to hasten up preparations in the host country. The clarification from the second Vice President of CAF was appreciated by Samuel Eto’o who also moonlights as UNICEF goodwill Ambassador in Cameroon.

Nigerian FA Chairman says without God’s blessings, nothing will work against the Lions ⁰

President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick has declared in Lagos that the football house is ready for the double-header FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifier against Cameroon. Pinnick Pinnick who was special guest at the Nigeria Women Football League Super 4 draw held at the Protea Hotel Ikeja yesterday said, “everything on the wish list has been provided for. What we require now for the team to excel is prayer.”

He defended his call for prayers as he said, “on our part we are ready, and I believe the players too are ready for Cameroon. Without God’s blessing, nothing will work. We have to pray against injury and other unforeseen mishaps.” The NFF supremo disclosed that the meeting he had with the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel was fruitful as the state government was determined to ensure the Super Eagles qualify for the Mundial.

He praised the government and people of Akwa Ibom State for their steadfastness and commitment to Nigeria’s world Cup and Africa Cup of Nations campaigns. “The governor was impressed and promised that he would do anything to see Nigeria qualifies for the World Cup,” Pinnick said.

Douala Reunification Stadium: La Republique’s Nations Cup of Shame ⁰

The reunification stadium in Douala is in its final stage of dilapidation. Cameroon Info.Net has reported that the situation of sports infrastructure in Cameroon is deplorable. No sports discipline can boast of a standard playground, not even football which has propelled Cameroon to international glory. This begs the question: What kind of human beings are Francophones?

The French Cameroun media and the Francophone political elites have launched a vicious attack on the new president of CAF, Ahmad Ahmad after he observed recently that Cameroon was not even ready to host 4 football delegations. The reality is that any visitor to Cameroon would be shocked at the state of the football facilities in the country.

Correspondingly, Cameroon still holds the rights of hosting the 2019 African cup of nations, despite controversies of its unpreparedness in terms of infrastructures and many other pitfalls. The photos attached here were made public by a sister publication, Cameroon Info.Net of the Douala reunification stadium which is expected to host a huge part of the games.

Interestingly, the Douala Reunification stadium is operational full swing. Gate fees are paid to watch matches. There is a CPDM director of stadium, who of course siphons the resources made from this stadium and that provided by the regime but never thinks for once that the stadium should be renovated.

Age rage of Borussia Dortmund’s latest Cameroonian star ⁰

Borussia Dortmund looks to have discovered another superstar of the future in Youssoufa Moukoko.

The Cameroon-born 12-year-old has so impressed bosses at the Bundesliga outfit that he was quickly promoted from their Under-15s side — where he scored 33 goals in just 21 appearances — to the Under-17s.

The youngster took little time in repaying the club’s faith as he bagged a brace in a 3-0 victory over rivals SG Unterrath.

Some, however, have questioned whether Moukoko is really such a tender age. His father Joseph is not having any of it, saying: ‘The boy can’t be older because his mum, Marie, is only 28.’

Southern Cameroons to apply for CAF, FIFA membership ⁰

After staging a friendly football encounter in Oslo, capital of Norway against the Black Stars of Ghana, the governing council of the Republic of Ambazonia (the Southern Cameroons) is expected to make an official application to become a member of the Confederation of African Football, CAF and the world football governing body, FIFA.

The match was organized at the request of the Southern Cameroons Football Association with permission granted to the players to brandish their Ambazonian passports as seen on the photo attached to this report.

Cameroon Concord News gathered that the interim leader of the Southern Cameroons Governing Council will make a pronouncement soonest authorizing the creation of a Southern Cameroons national football team. We also understand SCACUF will be applying for CAF and FIFA membership in the weeks ahead.

A well-placed source with ties to the spokesman of the Southern Cameroons Governing Council hinted that a committee has already been put in place to select a name for the Ambazonian national team.

La Republique is 5th in FIFA Africa’s new ranking ⁰

La Republique du Cameroun is now fifth (5th) in the FIFA African ranking made public today August the 10th, 2017 behind Tunisia in fourth position.

The country that is currently at daggers-drawn positions with the new leadership of the Confederation of African Football Association is ahead of Nigeria (6th), Burkina Faso (7th), Algeria (8th), Ghana (9th) and Côte d’Ivoire (10th).

With a decisive 2018 World Cup qualifier against Nigeria, Cameroun also ranked 35th, progressing from one place in the World classification.
