Cameroon Red Cross: CPDM barons to fight for Eteki Mboumoua’s seat ⁰

The race to replace the Late William Aurelian Eteki Mboumoua as president of the Cameroon Red Cross has begun in earnest. Candidates contesting for the post have begun campaigns ahead of elections scheduled for the 12th August 2017 at the headquarters of the institution. The date, venue and candidates eligible to take part in the elections were made public by the Minister of Public Health and chair of the Ad hoc Electoral Committee for the election of the president of the Cameroon Red Cross, Andre Mama Fouda and the co-chair, El Hadj Modibo Halodou Ibrahima.

According to the press release, six candidates were retained for the race including Abdousalam Mahaman, Akame Mfoumou nee Mendomo Cecile Leonie, Marie Madeleine Fouda, Feutse Roger, Ousmanou Dawaye and Peh Peh Ebenezer. Of the six candidates only five will be running, Ousmanou Dawaye having passed away.

The kicker for election campaigns was given on Thursday, 17th August 2017 by Feutse Roger during a press Conference in Yaoundé where he launched his manifesto. The Ambassador of humanitarian activities and President of the Red Cross for Mfoundi who has served in the Cameroon Red Cross for ten years said he vision is to build a Red Cross of action and proximity which is able to generate its own income.

He hopes to promote the humanitarian heritage by promoting team work, training of rescuers and to redefine the management model in the institution. He will however be contesting alongside Marie Madeleine Fouda, Former Minister of Social Affairs and member of the outgoing executive. She holds dear the vision of the founder of the Red Cross which is to help the needy and increase the number of rescuers in schools and institutions. She also hopes to use her 25 years experience in the Red Cross to attract more partners and donors.

Retired police Superintendent Peh Peh Ebenezer holds that a soldier remains a soldier even for a humanitarian mission. The retired officer hopes to use his experience as a uniformed man to forge a dynamic, strong and independent Red Cross. Former Vice President of the Management board and member of the ongoing executive, Abdousalam Mahaman and Akame Mfoumou nee Mendomo Cecile Leonie member of the outgoing executive also have convincing reasons why they hope to lead the Cameroon Red Cross. At the end of the elective general assembly at the Red Cross Head quarters on Monday 21st August 2016, the new President of the body will be known after the ballots would have been counted.

Southern Cameroons War of Independence: Another Gov’t school set ablaze, count goes up ⁰

Reports from Kumbo, Bui County in Southern Cameroons say Government Primary School Kikaikelaka has been completely burnt down by unknown individuals. Neighbours and witnesses hinted the school may have been razed for accommodating the 2016/2017 Common Entrance and First Schools Leaving Certificate examinations (FSL).

In spite of very tight security, the militant group carried out the act and disappeared before security could be alerted. Notwithstanding the tense and frightening presence of the forces of law and order who are currently spread across the different counties and villages in Southern Cameroons. Cameroon Info.Net reported that the incident occurred during the early hours of Wednesday, around 3 am.

The fire was discovered late and West Cameroonians in that part of the territory could only lament the material damages and the impact on school resumption for this academic year. Parents are now worried about the safety of pupils and students.

French Cameroun colonial security apparatus have as usual opened an investigation. This is not the first fire incident that has consumed a school structure in the North West constituency; several schools have been reduced to ashes, including markets, police stations, Hotel and several private properties.

UN says South Sudanese refugees in Uganda now number 1 million ⁰

The number of South Sudanese refugees sheltering in Uganda has reached one million, the United Nations says, marking a grim milestone for what has become the world’s fastest-growing refugee crisis. Ugandan officials say they are overwhelmed by the flow of people fleeing South Sudan’s civil war, and the UN refugee agency urges the international community to donate more for humanitarian assistance.

An average of 1,800 South Sudanese citizens have been arriving daily in Uganda over the past 12 months, the UNHCR said in a statement. Another one million or more South Sudanese are sheltering in Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, the Congo, and the Central African Republic.

The number of people fleeing jumped after deadly fighting again erupted in South Sudan’s capital, Juba, in July 2016. “Recent arrivals continue to speak of barbaric violence, with armed groups reportedly burning down houses with civilians inside, people being killed in front of family members, sexual assaults of women and girls, and kidnapping of boys for forced conscription,” the statement said.

“With refugees still arriving in their thousands, the amount of aid we are able to deliver is increasingly falling short.” A fundraising summit hosted by Uganda in June raised only a fraction of the $2 billion that Ugandan officials have said is needed to sufficiently look after the refugees and the communities hosting them.

Most of the refugees are women and children fleeing violence, often along ethnic lines, since the world’s newest country erupted into violence in December 2013. Ugandan refugee officials have repeatedly warned the influx is straining the country’s ability to be generous to the refugees, who often are given small plots of land for building temporary shelters and planting crops when they arrive. The largest of the settlements hosting refugees from South Sudan, Bidi Bidi, is roughly 230 square kilometers.

The World Food Program cut food rations for some refugees amid funding shortages in June. The UN says at least $674 million is needed to support South Sudanese refugees in Uganda this year, although only a fifth of that amount has been received.

The money is needed to provide basic services, including stocking clinics with medicines and putting up schools. Aid agencies say classroom sizes in the few available schools often exceed 200 pupils, and other children have dropped out because the nearest schools are located miles away.

“The funding shortfall in Uganda is now significantly impacting the abilities to deliver life-saving aid and key basic services,” the UNHCR statement said. Fighting persists in parts of South Sudan despite multiple ceasefire agreements. Rebel forces said Tuesday they had reclaimed their stronghold of Pagak in the northeast, less than a week after being pushed out by government forces.

Both sides have committed serious rights violations, including murder and rape, against civilians, according to UN investigators.

La Republique to triple Soybean output, as new estates go effective ⁰

YAOUNDE, Cameroon–Cameroon expects to more than triple its soybean harvest this year in an effort to cut imports of the crop, a top official in the Ministry of Economy said Wednesday.

“We expect to produce 35,000 metric tons of soybeans in 2017 from a new 200-hectare plantation,” Cameroon’s deputy minister of the economy, Yaouba Abdoulaye, told reporters.

Nigerian FA Chairman says without God’s blessings, nothing will work against the Lions ⁰

President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick has declared in Lagos that the football house is ready for the double-header FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifier against Cameroon. Pinnick Pinnick who was special guest at the Nigeria Women Football League Super 4 draw held at the Protea Hotel Ikeja yesterday said, “everything on the wish list has been provided for. What we require now for the team to excel is prayer.”

He defended his call for prayers as he said, “on our part we are ready, and I believe the players too are ready for Cameroon. Without God’s blessing, nothing will work. We have to pray against injury and other unforeseen mishaps.” The NFF supremo disclosed that the meeting he had with the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel was fruitful as the state government was determined to ensure the Super Eagles qualify for the Mundial.

He praised the government and people of Akwa Ibom State for their steadfastness and commitment to Nigeria’s world Cup and Africa Cup of Nations campaigns. “The governor was impressed and promised that he would do anything to see Nigeria qualifies for the World Cup,” Pinnick said.

Yaounde: 27 soldiers in Kondengui over mutiny in Far North region ⁰

27 soldiers combating the Nigerian Islamic sect, Boko Haram in the Far North region of La Republique du Cameroun have been detained at the Kondengui central prison in Yaoundé. The Biya Francophone regime says the troops expressed their dissatisfaction against the government by blocking a major road in Far-North with barricades in protest against the non-payment of their premiums and deployment allowance.

Cameroon Concord News learned that the incident had displeased the military authorities who ordered the arrest of the 27 soldiers that were involved and taken to Yaoundé. The ministry of defense attempted an explanation and stressed that the Yaoundé regime will not tolerate indiscipline in the ranks, especially in the far north, a region currently facing too many Boko Haram incursions.

Sanctions were imposed on the soldiers concerned, in accordance with instructions from the head of state and commander-in-chief of the armed forces noted the Minister of Defense, Joseph Beti Assomo.

EU demands Kenya post election results online ⁰

European Union observers in Kenya have called on the election commission to publish all remaining forms showing vote tallies on its website to ensure the transparency and accuracy of the process.

“The timing of such information being made public is critical given that petitions relating to the presidential race must be filed within seven days of the results announcement,” the mission said in a statement on Wednesday.

Andrew Limo, an election commission spokesman, said about 2,900 of the 41,000 forms showing results at individual polling stations were not yet online.

President Uhuru Kenyatta was re-elected in the Aug. 8 vote but opposition leader Raila Odinga has rejected results, saying they were rigged.

Douala Reunification Stadium: La Republique’s Nations Cup of Shame ⁰

The reunification stadium in Douala is in its final stage of dilapidation. Cameroon Info.Net has reported that the situation of sports infrastructure in Cameroon is deplorable. No sports discipline can boast of a standard playground, not even football which has propelled Cameroon to international glory. This begs the question: What kind of human beings are Francophones?

The French Cameroun media and the Francophone political elites have launched a vicious attack on the new president of CAF, Ahmad Ahmad after he observed recently that Cameroon was not even ready to host 4 football delegations. The reality is that any visitor to Cameroon would be shocked at the state of the football facilities in the country.

Correspondingly, Cameroon still holds the rights of hosting the 2019 African cup of nations, despite controversies of its unpreparedness in terms of infrastructures and many other pitfalls. The photos attached here were made public by a sister publication, Cameroon Info.Net of the Douala reunification stadium which is expected to host a huge part of the games.

Interestingly, the Douala Reunification stadium is operational full swing. Gate fees are paid to watch matches. There is a CPDM director of stadium, who of course siphons the resources made from this stadium and that provided by the regime but never thinks for once that the stadium should be renovated.

Douala: Wife of famous Makossa star Guy Lobe dies ⁰

Patience Lobe Ondoua, wife of the late Makossa star Guy Lobe is no more. The late singer’s wife died on Tuesday August 15, 2017 at the General Hospital in Douala.

Reacting to news of her sudden disappearance, Makossa legend, Sam Mbende said he was very touched by the death of Patience Lobe Ondoua, a well-known woman in the world of show bizz and wife of the late Guy Lobe. We understand, Sam Mbende is very close to the Guy Lobe family.

Patience Ondoua was reportedly ill in November 2016 and was admitted at the General Hospital in Douala. She is originally from the Lekie Division in the Central Region. Her husband, the famous Guy Lobe, died on March 16, 2015 at the Yaoundé General Hospital following an illness.

Age rage of Borussia Dortmund’s latest Cameroonian star ⁰

Borussia Dortmund looks to have discovered another superstar of the future in Youssoufa Moukoko.

The Cameroon-born 12-year-old has so impressed bosses at the Bundesliga outfit that he was quickly promoted from their Under-15s side — where he scored 33 goals in just 21 appearances — to the Under-17s.

The youngster took little time in repaying the club’s faith as he bagged a brace in a 3-0 victory over rivals SG Unterrath.

Some, however, have questioned whether Moukoko is really such a tender age. His father Joseph is not having any of it, saying: ‘The boy can’t be older because his mum, Marie, is only 28.’
