The 84 year old dictator, Paul BIYA has held talks with the French Ambassador to Cameroon, Gilles Thibault.  Both men met at the Unity Palace today Tuesday 30 May 2017. Etoudi reported that they discussed the outcome of the French Presidential elections that brought Emmanuel MACRON to power; the upcoming French legislative elections; the NATO summit in Brussels; the G7 summit in Sicily; the fight against terrorism and the inquiry report of the CAMRAIL derailment at Eseka.

Speaking to reporters after the audience, Ambassador Gilles Thibault hinted at a possible meeting between the French and Cameroonian Heads of State after the June parliamentary elections.  Gilles Thibault also stated that he submitted a report to President Paul BIYA about his recent journey to the Far North Region, which has been affected by the Boko Haram insurgency.  The French Diplomat also applauded the logical significance of the inquiry report following the CAMRAIL train accident at Eseka.

The long awaited congress of the so-called main opposition party in Cameroon has been announced for October 2017.  It is at the end of the October meeting of the Social Democratic Front that French Cameroonians would know the name of the candidate invested to challenge the 84 year Biya during the elections of 2018 that has been banned in Southern Cameroon territory.

The National Executive Committee of the Social Democratic Front met last Saturday in Bamenda under the direct supervision of its chairman, John Fru Ndi. Among the resolutions that stem from this meeting was the announcement of the party congress for the month of October 2017. A congress scheduled for last April was postponed.

Many other resolutions were taken during the Bamenda session, including the setting up of a special commission to report exhaustively on the killings and human rights violations in Southern Cameroons since the beginning of the Anglophone uprising.

In this regard, the SDF stated that Mr. Biya’s regime was waging an undeclared war against the Anglophones in Southern Cameroons. The SDF condemned with the strongest terms, the proceedings brought by the forces of darkness fully controlled by Mr. Biya’s regime against the Christian religious leaders in Southern Cameroon.

The SDF think tank also pointed out that the ruling CPDM crime syndicate regularly negotiates with known terrorists of the Boko haram sect, disbursing large sums of money for the release of hostages while arresting the members of the Cameron Anglophone Civil Society Consortium with which it was negotiating.

Hon. Joseph Mbah Ndam has affirmed that Chairman Ni John Fru Ndi reigns supreme at the head of the Social Democratic Front, SDF. The MP who also moonlights as one of the numerous Vice Presidents of the National Assembly was guest on the television program L’Arène on Canal 2 international on May the 21^st 2017.  Mbah also said John Fru Ndi remains at the head of the SDF because he is unbeatable.

The SDF front liner answered tough questions concerning the Anglophone crisis and the long awaited holding of the next National Congress of the SDF party. About the 8th Congress, the Honorable Mbah Ndam revealed that the lack of financial resources delayed the event.

“The SDF is an opposition political party. And like all the parties that did not choose to rally with the presidential majority, we have financial difficulties, “explained the deputy speaker of the National Assembly, in response to a question about the holding of the Congress.

Mbah Ndam noted that “Fru Ndi has not yet said he is tired and wants to hand over the baton. I can run for the presidency of the party, but before I do that, I have to be certain I can beat Fru Ndi. For now, I know his weight on the ground.” Mbah observed that the establishment of federalism and the release of those currently on trials in the framework of the Anglophone crisis should be the first step towards ending the uprising. As a reminder, the National Executive Committee of the SDF party has a budget of 80 million FCFA.

Senator Paul Maounde of the Social Democratic Front took his place on the grand stand during 20^th May celebrations despite SDF ban on all party militants and representatives. Paul Maounde has defended his stance claiming that the SDF National Executive Committee had forbidden militants from participating in the parades but not to attend.

The Senator represented the SDF in Meiganga and recently said he did not violate the instructions of National Chairman Ni John Fru Ndi who had earlier announced the SDF decision to boycott festivities marking the 45th anniversary of the so-called National Day.

“I am a Cameroonian citizen. I am an elected representative of the people. I do not see why an elected official would not attend the national day celebration of his country. There is a misunderstanding. It was never said that a citizen should not attend the parade. It was said that the party will not match.  There is a misinterpretation of the Chairman’s order.” argued Paul Maounde.

The Social Democratic Front (SDF) has expressed outrage with certain Francophone newspapers that recently accused the leadership of receiving financial donations from the Biya regime.  In a statement issued on May 15, 2017, the Secretary General of the party, Jean Tsomelou disputed the allegations leveled against the SDF.

Reacting to reports that the main opposition party received 6.5 billion CFA francs from the government, he replied that this was only a campaign of blackmail and intimidation. “The large family of the SDF was astounded on May 15, 2017 by a suspicious and anti-professional behavior of certain Francophone bodies of the Cameroon press.”

Jean Tsomelou also accused the Yaoundé based Francophone media of serious and misleading reporting against the Social Democratic Front -SDF and its national president Ni John Fru Ndi. For the Secretary General of the SDF, public funding of political parties “is not a gift” and does not oblige the party “to follow the Head of State in his totalitarian and irresponsible abuses since the beginning of the Southern Cameroons crisis.”

The SDF also pointed out those there vicious allegations came from a highly placed Cameroon government official. For this reason, the SDF Secretary revealed that a special edition of the SDF ECHO will clarify national and international opinion on the realities of public funding of parties as provided for by law and that the SDF will prosecute before the competent courts “the perpetrators and accomplices of this acts.”

The newspapers Le Soir and L’Independent are among the press organs that have reported the billions received from the government by the SDF.

Francophone ferocious media attack on Chairman Fru Ndi sparked equally fierce commentary from SDF militants and sympathizers. Biya reportedly ordered his Beti-Ewondo media gurus to launch a malicious attack on the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Front, Ni John Fru Ndi following the SDF decision to boycott the upcoming National Day celebration. The leadership of the main opposition party in La Republique du Cameroun has come under fire from pro Biya newspapers in Yaoundé who accused the Chairman of political banditry.

A few days after a communiqué from Ni John Fru Ndi called on Cameroonians not to celebrate the 45th edition of the so-called National Day, Francophone media houses serving the Yaoundé regime have published sensitive documents from the Ministry of Finance criticizing the SDF and its 76-year old leader for having received public funding amounting to 6.5 billion FCFA.

Fru Ndi’s die-hard supporters have however dismissed the allegations and opined that Biya was applying the same guerrilla tactics that his government recently condemned the Paris based international news magazine Jeune Afrique for negative reporting on Cameroon. Nevertheless, several political parties in Cameroon have benefited from the allocated sum of money by the state.

The Communication Secretary of the Central Committee of the ruling CPDM crime syndicate has reacted to the SDF decision to boycott the so-called National Day celebrations. The anti Anglophone Minister of Higher Education, Jacques Fame Ndongo said that each political party in Cameroon has the right to express its opinions and that the SDF bears full responsibility for its decision.

Fame Ndongo pointed out that all nations have some sacred principles, which any political party that operated in the country must respect scrupulously.  The Francophone cabinet member wondered aloud why a political party should boycott national day festivities.

“It is enough to re-visit the history of nations or political institutions to see that this is a glorious day that belongs to all citizens.  What is more, the national day is about a major event in the life of our nation (referendum of May 20, 1972 having consecrated the historic advent of the unitary state), “he added.

For the Communication Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPDM, his party will stage parades with enthusiasm and patriotic ardor throughout the territory, on 20 May 2017, as usual, without prejudice to the watchwords of any particular political group.

Fame Ndongo explained that the National Day does not belong to any political party. It is the prerogative of all the citizens of the Republic.  Expressing his frustration, the Francophone political elite hinted that other parties will parade. And they will be many.

The members of the so-called National Commission for Bilingualism and Multiculturalism have been installed into their functions. The Thursday 27th April 2017 ceremony at the Yaoundé Conference Centre has been rubbished by the Cameroon Anglophone Civil Society Consortium. The team headed by an anti grass-field former Prime Minister Peter Mafany Musonge was commissioned by the Head of Government, Philemon Yang, on behalf of the Head of State.

In trying to divert from the Southern Cameroon problem and quest for an independent state, the PM called on the members to foster the two official languages for the sake of peace and national unity. The PM said bilingualism remains a rare asset of development and social cohesion at a time when French Cameroun political elites orchestrated the longest internet shut down ever recorded in the African continent against West Cameroonians. The ceremony came just two days after President Biya signed a decree appointing a certain Cornelius Chi Asafor as Secretary General of the commission. The Chairman of the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism said work will effectively begin this coming week.

Created by a presidential decree that was made public on the 15th March 2017, the Musonge Commission which composed of 15 members is a primitive and cheap design by the Biya Francophone regime to downplay the Southern Cameroons crisis. Its objective is to ensure the equal use of English and French as two official languages which has no bearing with the ongoing Anglophone crisis.

Former Governor David Abouem a Tchoyi has said that the members of the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism are not out to impress President Biya. The members were installed on April 27, 2017 by Prime Minister Philemon Yang.

Abouem observed that “The President has signed a decree setting out our powers, and now there is the law and the spirit of the law, and each one of us should indicate how he understands the spirit of the text.”  “We have a road map set by the decree of the President of the Republic. The first task is to understand the full extent and then on the basis of the program of action that we are going to put in place, each one will intervene according to his / her sensitivity and according to the problems on the agenda. What he thinks, we exchange and then we move towards a common position “.

On the fact that the Commission remains an advisory body, David Abouem, noted that “I have been in these commissions before.  I can tell you that we sat on a similar commission in 1979 and made a number of recommendations, with medium- or long-term application and President Ahidjo applied all of them, at least, those that were of immediate and short-term application.”

The former baron of the regime pointed out that “If someone had reflected on the problem of Anglophone justice, on the problem of Anglophone teachers who had even made forward proposals to the president of the republic in October when the crisis began, I am sure that the situation would not have evolved.”

A business man who considers himself an advocate of peace, Jean Blaise Gwet has declared his intention to take part in the 2018 Presidential Election in Cameroon. He made the announcement on Wednesday 26^th of April 2017 at a press conference organized in Yaoundé.

Jean Blaise Gwet, a member of the Patriotic Movement for Change in Cameroon MPCC Party was endorsed by his party. Apart from announcing his candidature, the candidate unveiled his plans to reshape the country’s political landscape. Jean Blaise said he will be campaigning for peace, human rights and social cohesion.

Nothing is known of him at the national level and some commentators have already opined that he is a Biya agent. The 60 year old Entrepreneur and Executive Officer of Lucky Gwet Solar Energy Company was candidate in the 2011 Presidential election and later declined due to unpreparedness. He is positive that his party will bring meaningful change to French Cameroun.
