Southern Cameroons Crisis: Yerima tells Biya not to ‘play with fire’ at a petrol station

Southern Cameroons Crisis: Yerima tells Biya not to ‘play with fire’ at a petrol station 0

The Vice President of the Ambazonia Interim Government has warned President Paul Biya of French Cameroun not to play with fire at a petrol station urging the 89-year-old dictator to stop his continued deployment of Francophone army soldiers to Southern Cameroons.

Yerima made the comment late on Sunday during a phone conversation he held for more than three hours with some Ground Zero commanders, the Ambazonia Interim Government said in a statement.

Dabney Yerima pointed out that the killing of a senior Francophone military commander in Kumba was a very strong warning to Yaoundé adding that a string of similar warnings will be issued from Ground Zero in response to continued military operations in Southern Cameroons.

Cameroon government forces have been conducting operations all over Southern Cameroons targeting what the army says are separatists’ fighters.

Yerima further urged Biya to move away from his so-called one and indivisible Cameroon principle that recognizes the Federal Republic of Ambazonia as an integral part of La Republique du Cameroun.

The deformation of the PCC: The Theology of Rev Fonki Samuel Forba

The deformation of the PCC: The Theology of Rev Fonki Samuel Forba 0

My fellow Presbyterians of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon ( PCC) ,

“Fear Not for I am with thee” Isaiah 41: 10

“Do not be afraid” Jeremiah 1: 8

Moderator Fonki Samuel and his gang inside the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon ( PCC) have deformed the church and transformed it into a dent of thieves. They have no mercy ,no compassion and no care at all but I say to all of you  fear not!

These are Pastors who have declared war against Widows, Primary School Teachers, Senior Citizens and Children living in poverty and oppression. Their cries for mercy and compassion felt on deaf ears over the years. The outcome has been violence- war and killings of people under the watch of Rev Fonki Samuel and his Synod Executive Committee.  “It shall not be so amongst you.”

Still I am delighted to write to all of you to encourage one another during this long journey to defend the PCC and uphold the “Presbyterian belief” which by all account was inspired by the theology of John Calvin based on the biblical covenant of faith in Jesus Christ.

The pride and image of a Presbyterian Christian is determined by their understanding of grace, faith, justification/ sanctification, social justice and salvation through Jesus Christ per the theology of John Calvin.

In 2 Corinthians 5: 19, God is in Jesus Christ reconciling the world to Himself and caring for those in need Matthew 25: 35- 45. God was not in Christ persecuting and exploiting Christians and marginalizing.

Therefore, any church or Pastor who persecutes God’s people does not belong to the covenant of faith. These are the types to be purged from the Church. It should not be the other way around.  There comes a time when we have to stop wickedness and evil because it is incumbent upon us.

As Christ followers ,  ✝️ we must sing this song ” Onwards Christian Soldiers  marching as to war with the cross of Jesus going on before.”

Many of you Elders, Teachers and Widows and Pastors have cried  out  to me to help advocate for the powerless( Teachers, widows, children and Seniors) all of whom are being scammed by the PCC authorities under the Hitler of the Presbyterian Church,  Moderator Rev Fonki Samuel.

This time will be very different than 24 years ago. Let me put things into proper perspective  so that  everyone can  see where they belong even if that is against their will. Many of you who are familiar with my “craziness” know when God calls me to act , I never say NO.

I am fully aware that the PCC is divided into two camps and these divisions are nourished by a carefully crafted propaganda machine of lies, manipulation and persecution of innocent Presbyterians. These two camps are as follows ;

1. Presbyterians who are loyal to Moderator Fonki Samuel Forba orchestrated by a greedy  business- minded  Synod Executive  secretly  privatizing the PCC and profiting off the sweat and tears of mothers ,children and teachers.

2. Presbyterians who are loyal to  Jesus Christ and the authoritative  word of God as reflected by the theology of John Calvin. These Presbyterians see the PCC as a community of faithful stakeholders saved by Grace and justified by faith.

So I already  know that I am speaking to two categories of Presbyterians here because whatever the Fonki loyalists are doing ,  it is important they realize that  we know what has been going on  since  he began his theology of deformation of the PCC .

I will not repeat myself because I have spoken for the powerless  Presbyterians Moderator Fonki Samuel has intentionally trampled upon and discarded them by his own  ruthless  and  insensitive corrupt policies of marginalization

I have watched Moderator Fonki minister only to his loyalists, rewarded them and covered up for them even when they were damn wrong. I have seen it all.

He had only one objective to deal only with a select few who would allow him to have access to money at will without transparency and accountability.

Therefore, his trips overseas was designed to promote Fonki and build an empire for himself, his family, friends  and his loyalists at home and abroad. He has never been out to promote Presbyterians and enhance the dignity of all Presbyterians. No effort is even met to help.

Moderator Fonki Samuel and his loyalists have become the wealthy Presbyterians overnight moving rapidly from rags into riches since they deformed responsible Christian stewardship into Fonki plundering machine (stealing, theft and embezzlement).

I do not anticipate Fonki’s loyalists to insult us  as usual telling us  to toe the line or leave . I hope that we do not have to endure one more insult again because the times have changed.  Jeremiah exalts us to uproot evil if necessary.

The reign of tyranny in the PCC perpetuated by Moderator Rev Fonki Samuel is compounded by the reign of terror Presbyterians and co have endured with the exception of the few loyalists.

So how do we preserve the PCC and stop Moderator Rev Fonki Samuel and his gang? I have some ideas to propose to all responsible Presbyterians in my next edition.

Also all concerned Presbyterians are free to send me your ideas on how we should move forward. You can email or contact me on whatsup. I want to assure you that your name will be kept private because  the Hitler of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon drunk with greed ,power and wicked  is dangerous and we will not allow them to  hurt  or destroy  the lives of more Presbyterians. However,  do not be afraid to send any information that will help  me to go after them  here in the USA.

Jeremiah  1 : 1- 19

Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue  you,” declares the Lord.

9 Then the Lord reached out his hand and touched  my mouth and said to me, “I have put my words in your mouth.10 See, today I appoint you over nations  and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.”

God bless you all.

Football: Clinton N’Jie joins Turkish Super Lig side Sivasspor on free transfer

Football: Clinton N’Jie joins Turkish Super Lig side Sivasspor on free transfer 0

The former Tottenham and Marseille star has agreed a two-year deal to join the ambitious club after leaving Dynamo Moscow by ‘mutual consent’

Turkish Super Lig side Sivasspor have completed the transfer of Cameroon forward Clinton N’Jie from Russian Premier League side Dynamo Moscow.

The former Tottenham Hotspur star has agreed a two-year deal with the club, joining as a free agent two weeks after the Russian side terminated his contract by ‘mutual consent.’

“As we continue with pre-season transfer, Demir Grup Sivasspor has signed a 2-year contract with right wing player Clinton N’Jie, who played for Dinamo Moscow in Russia last season,” stated a statement from the club on Friday.

The 28-yearold joins Sivasspor after three years in the Russian capital where he scored six goals in 66 appearances in all competitions.

N’Jie managed just one goal last season after featuring in 22 matches as Dynamo Moscow finished third in the Russian Premier League.

The 2017 Africa Cup of Nations winner will hope to score more regularly for the Turkish side who finished last season with 52 league goals.

He will share the goal scoring burden with Ivory Coast international Max-Alaine Gradel, Mustapha Yatabare of Mali as well as Nigeria’s Leke James.

Yatabare was Sivasspor’s top scorer with 12 goals in 2021-22 with Gradel managing seven, one more than James, as Sivasspor finished 10th in the 20-team log but finished the campaign with silverware after defeating Kayserispor to win the Turkish Cup.

N’Jie is the club’s fourth signing this summer following the acquisition of right-back Murat Paluli and midfielder Robin Yalcin, both on free transfers, as well as Polish striker Karol Angielski from Radomiak Radom for €1 million.

Caped 42 times for Cameroon while scoring 10 goals, N’Jie came through the Brasserie Football Academy before joining Ligue 1 side Lyon in 2012, playing for two seasons after which he moved to Tottenham.

He spent one full season in North London where he made 14 appearances but was loaned out to French giants Marseille the following year.

N’Jie spent two further seasons at the Stade Velodrome, leaving for Russia in July 2019 after playing 83 games while scoring 16 goals.

He could make his Sivasspor debut on Saturday when they face champions Trabzonspor in the season’s curtain-raiser Turkish Super Cup. Sivasspor will open their Super Lig campaign against Gaziantep on August 6.

Request for Eto’o’s resignation: the verdict postponed again

Request for Eto’o’s resignation: the verdict postponed again 0

The judges of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) who were supposed to pronounce a verdict this Saturday on the case demanding the resignation of Samuel Eto’o as President of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fécafoot), have again given a new date to communicate the decision.

Samuel Eto’o therefore remains president of Fécafoot. His opponents will have to wait another month before hoping to see their dream come true.

Indeed, expected this Saturday July 30, 2022, the verdict of the Court of Arbitration for Sport, CAS, has been postponed to August 31.

This is the third time that the Court of Arbitration for Sport has postponed its verdict in this case.

But this time, Me Delphine Deschenaux-Rochat, adviser in charge of this procedure, did not communicate the reasons for the postponement.

Some members of the Executive Committee of FECAFOOT and the Cameroon Olympic and Sports Committee demand the resignation of Samuel Eto’o at the head of the Federation.

The reasons for this complaint against Eto’o

This comes after the Spanish courts sentenced the former Barcelona player to a 22-month prison term for “tax evasion”.

His opponents evoke a non-respect of article 36 of the statutes of FECAFOOT which stipulates that: any candidate for the position of member of the Executive Committee of FECAFOOT must meet the eligibility conditions below:

a) be a Cameroonian citizen enjoying his civic rights;

b) be at least 21 years old and not more than 70 years old;

c) not have been sentenced to a final custodial sentence without suspension of more than three (03) months;

d) not have been sentenced to a final custodial sentence with simple suspension or with probation for more than six (06) months.

CPDM Crime Syndicate: Fuel subsidies could finally exceed CFA780 billion in 2022

CPDM Crime Syndicate: Fuel subsidies could finally exceed CFA780 billion in 2022 0

The Cameroonian government announced it will approve CFA780 billion in fuel subsidy to keep pump prices unchanged in this harsh period marked by rising global prices. This new figure was revealed by the Director General of the Treasury, Sylvester Moh, in an interview with the state-owned Cameroon Tribune.

It is way higher than the CFA480 billion initially approved in the collective budget, and the CFA672 billion projected by the Minister of Commerce, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana, during a press conference held on March 30, 2022, in Yaoundé. In a July 11 statement, the Minister of Water and Energy (Minee), Gaston Eloundou Essomba, revealed that fuel subsidy has already cost the treasury CFA317 billion in the first half of 2022.

This makes a monthly average of CFA52.8 billion, or CFA634 billion over 12 months, not taking into account that in June 2022, for example, this subsidy peaked at CFA80 billion, according to Minee figures. Not only does the new subsidy figure exceed all the official figures announced so far, but above all, it could prove unsustainable for the Treasury in the medium or even short term. The country has recently experienced a fuel shortage.

“The disruptions are the consequence of the large resources subsidized pump prices that must be mobilized in real time to ensure the import of petroleum products,” the Minister of Water and Energy said on July 11, 2022, to justify the scarcity of fuel in the country’s main cities.

In this situation, the government could, instead of gradually reducing fuel subsidies from 2023 as announced, suspend the subsidy before the end of the current year 2022 given its unsustainability.

If Ambazonia had no oil, would Macron be in Cameroon?

30, July 2022

If Ambazonia had no oil, would Macron be in Cameroon? 0

In defining independence strategies around perfect circumstances, war advocates in the NOSO have often been so blinded by their conception of a desirable future as to overlook current shifts in geopolitical dynamics. Internally, Cameroon was able to maintain its military dominance because President Biya was able to use the levers of the state to seize many opportunities on the diplomatic scene. However, his presidency is coming to an end, and with the tectonic shift in world politics resulting from the Ukrainian war, there is an urgent need to debate what kind of geostrategic outcome President Biya’s departure will bring to Cameroon.

As a geostrategist, these questions preoccupy my mind every day. Despite the widespread perception of theories of change due to an inevitable transition, Cameroonians have not yet begun to look at geopolitics or geostrategy in the right light. I chose this sensational title to get your full attention so that we can focus on the boring but critical realities of geopolitics that will affect current and future generations of our countrymen.

Why is Macron in Cameroon?

Macron is in Cameroon because of Ambazonia. He was invited to Cameroon by President Paul Biya, but his primary interest is Ambazonia. Let me explain. Ambazonia was not the main topic in public, but all the analyzes I have done point to Ambazonia.

The reason is simple. The territory referred to as Ambazonia is home to crude oil, which has remained a cornerstone of the French economy since World War II. Ambazonian oil also accounts for nearly 50% of Cameroon’s import revenue each year. African crude oil remains a strategic asset for France and a key pillar in helping France maintain its standard of living over the past 50 years. We Africans have subsidized Europe with cheap exports, especially crude oil. Europe’s reliance on crude oil and gas, however, has only been moderated over the past two decades by Europe’s access to cheap Russian reserves. If Russian supply lines are closed, as Putin is preparing to do, France, like many other European nations, will have no choice but to rely again on African reserves, especially those of the Gulf of Guinea.

Once you realize that Europe needs oil and gas to power its cars and heat its homes in the winter, you have to accept that the last thing a Western leader wants is for people to freeze to death in the winter. . It’s a real suicide.

Oil diplomacy will intensify in the coming months. We are currently preparing the visit of the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Lavrov, to President Biya, just after that of President Macron.

TotalFinaElf alias TotalEnergies is the world’s 5th largest oil producer with more than 180 billion dollars in revenue for the year 2021, but France does not produce a drop of oil. Central African countries such as Cameroon are the suppliers. In exchange, France offered its support to regimes like Paul Biya, the Bongos in Gabon, the Debys in Chad and Dennis Sassou Nguesso in Congo-Brazza. For decades, this arrangement served France but disrupted the economic structures of these countries. Resource-dependent economies have created oligarchs in Central Africa. Today, thanks to advances in internet communication, the tide is turning. There is growing sentiment against what some Africans see as a neo-colonial framework that creates a small superclass at the expense of millions who live in abject poverty.

Many Cameroonians do not have a sufficient vision of the future. The resulting naivety creates an unreasonable expectation that Macron will defend our interests at his expense. Some even think that he should give up the CFA franc. Others demand that he unblock France’s colonial machine. These results remain improbable without sustained pressure and the levers to make them a reality. Macron may be a liberal democrat, but any world leader is by default a fiscal conservative when it comes to global trade. Every Western leader has taken an oath to defend the interests of his country, militarily and economically. Expecting Macron to drop the CFA or advocate for true liberalization of the Cameroonian economy in relation to world trade is no different from expecting him to come out for independence. Ambazonia. If he has to secure African oil and gas to keep his citizens warm in the winter or to run their cars and machines, he will, no matter what we think. It’s realpolitik.

However, as a serious student of geopolitics, I will also tell you that change is constant. Alliances are not permanent. The future could be very different. As long as oil demand remains strong, global powers will attempt to gain access to Ambazonia oil, and Cameroon’s sovereignty or French access will always be contested.

These external forces are what we often overlook in our political debates. I will therefore take the risk of going where many Cameroonian academics tend to abstain when talking about our oil and gas sector.

The oil industry in Cameroon is very important but remains opaque. According to the World Bank, 47% of all the money Cameroon makes from its exports comes from crude oil, and that crude oil is in Ambazonia. However, we all remember that the World Bank also concluded in January 2011 that only about 46% of the total oil revenues accruing to the government between 1977 and 2006 could be transferred to the budget. Their conclusion that the remaining 54% is not properly accounted for remains the same. If we consider the total amount of oil produced by Cameroon, the figures vary between 70,000 and 100,000 barrels per day. With a barrel of oil at $100 or 64,000 CFA today, this means that Cameroon earns between 6,400,000,000 and 10,000,000,000 CFA per day with oil alone. Without going into accounting details, this means for ordinary mortals that more than 3 billion CFA francs can be diverted per day from the oil account. This fluctuation in the reports also indicates accounting irregularities. What is also problematic is that the Cameroonian government was reporting 185,000 barrels per day in 1984 and no one has ever explained why there was a sudden drop of over 100,000 barrels in the reports after 1984. If these missing 100,000 barrels in declared exports are also a reality, then around 10 billion CFA francs are being siphoned off daily. Cameroonians will therefore want to know who is sucking up this money and where it is going. There are now more tools available for credible investigation by Cameroonian academics and financial experts. The oil debate is one we will have at another time, but these numbers are worth noting to understand the complexity we will have to tackle along the way and the questions that will arise.

TotalFinaElf alias TotalEnergies is the world’s 5th largest oil producer with more than 180 billion dollars in revenue for 2021 alone, but France does not produce a drop of oil. Central African countries such as Cameroon are the suppliers. In exchange, France offered its support to regimes like Paul Biya, the Bongos in Gabon, the Debys in Chad and Dennis Sassou Nguesso in Congo-Brazza. As long as demand for oil remains strong, global powers will attempt to gain access to Ambazonia oil, and Cameroon’s sovereignty or French access will always be contested.

These external forces are what we often overlook in our political debates. I will therefore take the risk of going where many Cameroonian academics tend to abstain when talking about our oil and gas sector.

Today, Cameroon is a serious victim of the Dutch disease – the curse that afflicts many oil-producing nations. Elf Serepca discovered oil in 1947 off the coast of Southern Cameroons, long before independence. In 1960, Cameroonians, and even President Ahidjo, did not even know that we had oil. After independence, President Ahidjo was made aware of oil, which prompted him to call for the replacement of the Federal Republic by a unitary state. Without a unitary state, he had no basis for a legal claim. When he finally achieved the unitary state through the 1972 referendum, he then proceeded with the land reform of 1974, which made the President of Cameroon the owner of all untitled land throughout the National territory. From 1974 to 1977, President Ahidjo discreetly set up the SNH. The majority of the Cameroonian people only knew that we had oil after the establishment of SONARA. It was not possible to conceal a refinery.

Since 1977, all oil revenues have been controlled exclusively by the Presidency of the Republic. SNH is not an entity accessible to the public. With total control of oil revenues estimated at well over $100 billion since 1977, President Biya has been able to maintain control. As things stand, any president of Cameroon with access to the SNH account can pay the army even if Cameroonians refuse to pay taxes or shut down the economy. This leverage will not be available when Cameroonians start looking at the oil sector.

France benefited from this arrangement, but not as much as many believe today. The situation has changed over the past two decades. Prior to 2002, the French government was a major shareholder in TotalFinaElf, aka TotalEnergies, but had to cede its stake to the European Commission following a ruling by the Court of Justice of the European Communities which condemned the government’s excessive desire Frenchto control the business. As early as 2011, Total Energies began selling or deploying its key assets and operations from Cameroon to Côte d’Ivoire. Since 2009, most oil interests have been held by the Russians, Chinese and British. Companies like New Age Energy, Lukoil and Petrochina have won major concessions. Other Russian companies like Gazprom, Tatneft and Rosneftfaz continue to try to enter the market. It is these companies/competitors that Macron is interested in. His main interest is to obtain more latitude from President Biya. Western powers know that Putin makes money in Cameroon through Lukoil. If Europe is at war with Putin, granting concessions to Lukoil or any other Russian company can be interpreted as an act of hostility towards the West. The French journalist’s question asking President Biya about his position on the war in Ukraine highlights the deep concerns of Western capitals.

You may be wondering why it is important to know this and what is the connection to Ambazonia.

Today, Macron’s official position is that President Biya is an essential ally who will be able to guard and secure the oil assets from Ambas Bay to Bakassi. If President Biya is open to a long-term succession plan, France will probably prefer continuity to change. France will also prefer to support the decentralization programme. Macron will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that the interests of the French people are served. And the best way is to preserve and maintain the status quo.

But this dynamic is also subject to fundamental change if the NOSO war continues.

There is also growing concern in the West about President Biya’s declining mental and physical acuity. Many people have concluded that President Biya has set his sights on the Russians and the Chinese. The signing of the cooperation agreements with Russia is a diplomatic mistake that cemented this view. President Macron has just left Cameroon and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is about to arrive. In recent months, many Western capitals have begun to wonder whether working with Ambazonians will not be a more effective long-term approach to securing the key resources the West needs. If this continues, what if Ambazonians start exploring how to transfer Ambazonian oil interests to the French and Americans? What if Ambazonians come to their senses, put aside anti-French sentiment (which is growing exponentially among French speakers) and give Macron the political and economic dividends he desperately needs? What if Ambazonians choose to sell their oil to France, the United States, or both if the price is right? Can Cameroon survive if the Biya regime is perceived as hostile to the West in the midst of an existential war?

Geopolitics is about to get very complicated, as Putin redoubles his efforts. Ambazonia is in the eye of the storm. The geopolitical and economic importance of the Gulf of Guinea is about to increase. As Europe enters winter and Russian supply lines are closed, this is a time when Cameroon must rethink its strategic position. If the Ambazonians step up their diplomacy and offer assurances to the oil companies while Cameroon rests on its laurels because it killed the Marshal of Lebialem, there is a real risk that we will lose the war.

In geopolitics, there are no permanent friends. When we know that France has backed Biafra, we cannot exclude the likelihood that Macron and future French presidents will be Ambazonia’s key strategic partner in a few years, while French-speaking Cameroon disintegrates in the ethnic wars to come. if thePresident Biya has no viable succession plan. Even if President Biya is replaced by Franck Emmanuel Biya, that will not be enough to stop the looming catastrophe.

We can no longer continue to ignore it when it is the determining factor in the trajectory of our domestic and foreign policy. Cameroonians will have to look into the oil sector because it is at the heart of our destiny in geopolitics. We need to start thinking. If we fail to get around the table with solutions, we will all be on the menu after President Biya leaves.

If Ambazonia had no oil, would Cameroon be at war with our English-speaking brothers? If Ambazonia had no oil, would Macron be in Cameroon?

Southern Cameroons: IG urges response to deadly attacks that killed the Field Marshal 0

The Ambazonian Interim Government has called on armed restoration forces to take practical measures in response to the Cameroon government military operations in Southern Cameroons that led to the killing of the leader of the Red Dragons of Lebialem.

French Cameroon government attacks carried out recently in Lebialem killed at least seven civilians including the prominent Amba fighter and head of the Red Dragons.

In a statement on Thursday, Vice President Dabney Yerima said repeated acts of aggression and continuous violation of the Ambazonian sovereignty, occupation of Southern Cameroons towns and villages and establishment of military bases in nearly all villages in the Federal Republic of Ambazonia and shedding the blood of innocent civilians are far away from the principle of good neighbourliness.

Dabney Yerima called for a unified stance from all Southern Cameroons restoration groups..

Yerima also urged Amba fighters to work towards expulsion of all French Cameroun civil administrators and forces, and put an end to the presence of any military bases or garrisons in the Federal Republic of Ambazonia hosting Francophone soldiers.

Buhari administration sets harsh conditions for Ambazonian asylum seekers

Buhari administration sets harsh conditions for Ambazonian asylum seekers 0

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday approved a memo by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development for a standard operation procedure for maintaining the civilian and humanitarian character of asylum seekers from Cameroon.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, said this was to guard against the possibility of granting asylum to insurgents from Cameroon.

He said: “You all know that due to the insurgency in Cameroon, Nigeria has witnessed an influx of Cameroonian asylum seekers and there’s a basic standard procedure for you to be granted status as an asylum seeker.”

He said anybody from Cameroon seeking asylum in Nigeria must first convince the authorities that he/she has actually renounced armed struggle before he/she can be considered as an asylum seeker.

“Also there are cases of some of them who have come even when they claim to have surrendered their arms, go back at times, to join the separatist movement in Cameroon.”

“So, all we’ve done today is to establish the standard procedure to ensure those claiming to be asylum seekers are actually not insurgents themselves that have come to destabilize Nigeria or people who will come and be launching attacks against their own country from the comfort of Nigeria.”

Ukraine War: Africa is being pushed to take sides

Ukraine War: Africa is being pushed to take sides 0

When French President Emmanuel Macron visited Cameroon this week, he called out an entire continent for “hypocrisy.” Europe had decisively identified Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as a war, he said during a news conference with Cameroonian President Paul Biya on Tuesday, but much of Africa had not.

“I have seen too much hypocrisy, particularly on the African continent,” Macron continued, “and — I’m saying this very calmly — with some not calling it a war when it is one and saying they don’t know who started it because they have diplomatic pressures.”

The French leader’s remarks, which came on the second day of a three-nation tour of Africa, showed a sharp contrast with those from another current visitor to the continent: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The veteran diplomat began his own four-nation tour of Africa on Saturday, singing praises for Africa and how the continent handled the fallout from the war in Ukraine.

“We appreciate the considered African position as to the situation in and around Ukraine,” Lavrov wrote in a column published in newspapers in Egypt, Congo, Uganda and Ethiopia, the four countries he is in the midst of touring. “Although unprecedented by its scale, the pressure from beyond has not brought our friends to join the anti-Russian sanctions. Such an independent path deserves deep respect.”

These concurrent visits from Western and Russian officials show a difficult reality for African nations. Many had sought to avoid taking a side on the war in Ukraine,, with 25 of Africa’s 54 states abstaining from a vote to condemn Russia’s invasion of its neighbor during the U.N. General Assembly in March.

But whether they like it or not, Africa has been dragged into the conflict. The most glaring issue has been economic, with many countries already shaken by the pandemic now facing a food crisis. African nations once relied heavily on Ukrainian grain — now they are facing soaring prices after Russia blocked ports by the Black Sea fleet. Steep oil prices, meanwhile, have increased economic pressure on many households.

Macron also addressed the issue of food prices during his visit to Cameroon, though he dismissed claims that he was visiting the continent just because of the Ukraine war.

“European economic sanctions on Russia that are now affecting Africa are intended to stop Russia’s attack on Ukraine’s sovereignty and not to punish Africans,” Macron said Wednesday. “France will assist African countries to face the shocks caused by the war by encouraging local investments in agriculture to increase food production.”

U.S. Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa Mike Hammer is also visiting Egypt and Ethiopia this week, where he is due to meet with leaders of the African Union. The State Department has described the main objective of the talks to provide U.S. support for a diplomatic solution over a dam project that has put the two countries at odds over water supplies.

Last week, the United States announced a $1.3 billion “surge” in aid for countries in the Horn of Africa, pointing to the fallout from an enormous drought across Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia. But there are fears that the current level of aid from Europe is not enough: Devex reported last week that an internal document from the European Union delegation to the African Union saw “the EU losing the battle for hearts and minds in Africa over the conflict.”

African nations have been inundated with counter-information backed by the Kremlin. In the column that presaged the visit, Lavrov said the food crisis hitting Africa was partly due to Western sanctions on Russia, but also amounted to a global economic system that supported the West at the expense of others.

“I would like to emphasize that the speculations of Western and Ukrainian propaganda that Russia allegedly ‘exports hunger’ are completely unfounded. In fact, these are yet another attempt to shift the blame to others,” Lavrov wrote, adding that Russia would live up to obligations in “exports of food, fertilizers, energy and other goods vital for Africa.”

Russia has recently sought to ally itself with Ethiopia — once a steadfast partner of the West. The country now faces strained relations with the United States and Europe due to alleged human rights abuses during the war in Tigray.

Russian officials have used the conspiratorial concept of a “golden billion” elite in the West to seek international support. On Wednesday in Addis Ababa, Lavrov gave a speech to African Union diplomats at the Russian Embassy in the Ethiopian capital where he offered an anti-colonial explanation for Moscow’s decision to invade Ukraine and the subsequent international backlash.

“I am sure the overwhelming majority of world countries do not want to live as if the colonial times (have) come back,” Lavrov said.

While Russia does not have the same colonial legacy in Africa, Moscow has a lengthy relationship with many nations that goes back to Soviet support during the Cold War. Some countries that abstained from the General Assembly votes on Ukraine have allegedly done so based on anti-colonial movements with close links to the Soviet Union, according to one analysis.

Macron’s strongest argument against Russia may be his claim that the country is “one of the last imperial, colonial powers.” Speaking in Benin on Wednesday, the French president said the invasion of Ukraine was “a territorial war, the likes of which we thought had disappeared from European soil. It’s a war from the early 20th, even the 19th century.”

France, however, is in the midst of coming to terms with its presence in West Africa, ending Operation Barkhane — a task force that has tried to combat violent jihadist movements in Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso. Macron said Wednesday that despite this change, France remained “resolutely committed” to security in Africa.

Meanwhile, Russian mercenaries, most notably the Wagner Group, have spread their influence across much of West Africa. The Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington says 18 countries now have a Russian mercenary footprint, with groups like Wagner supporting the controversial 2020 coup d’etat in Mali which led France to draw back from the country.

Contrary to what Macron claimed in his current visit to the continent, the majority of African nations have condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine during the U.N. General Assembly vote in March. The day after the invasion, all three African representatives on the 12-member Security Council voted in favor of a motion to end the war. Russia, a permanent member of the council, vetoed it.

And even before that, Kenyan Ambassador Martin Kimani gave a powerful speech where he likened Russian ambitions to take back Ukrainian land to the colonialism that casts a long shadow over his continent.

“This situation echoes our history,” Kimani said on Feb. 22, echoing Macron’s later comments. “Kenya and almost every African country was birthed by the ending of empire.”

CPDM Crime Syndicate: Former CRTV GM at risk of dying in prison 0

This Friday, July 29, 2022, the former General Manager of the Cameroon Radio and Television (CRTV), Amadou Vamoulke, will have spent six years in the Kondengui Maximum Security Prison, still awaiting trial despite incessant calls from Reporters Without Borders for his release.

The veteran French Cameroun journalist was arrested for alleged misappropriation of public funds, during his time as head of CRTV from 2005 to 2016. He is also accused of embezzling TV tax money known in Cameroon as audio-visual fee.

His trial has witnessed several postponements and adjournments with no end in sight and the much respected international NGO Reporters Without Borders (RSF) now believes that Vamoulke is being arbitrarily detained by the Cameroonian justice system for political reasons.

Cameroon Intelligence Report understands that there have been 127 hearings and this great journalist has still not been found guilty of all the charges brought against him. The reason is very simple noted Reporters Without Borders “The prosecution has been unable to demonstrate with the slightest evidence and testimony the facts of embezzlement that it accuses Mr. Vamoulké of. The arbitrary nature of this detention was recognized by the UN, which recommended that the Cameroonian authorities release Vamoulké. This journalist has already lost six years of his life. He is 72 years old. We hope that the goal is not to silence him forever. His release is no longer just an issue,” said Arnaud Froger, the head of Reporters Without Borders for Africa

A committee for the rehabilitation and release of Vamoulké has even been set up to put pressure on the Biya regime to demand the release of Amadou Vamoulke, and includes personalities from the audiovisual sector and also several organizations for the defense and protection of journalists and human rights organizations. The said committee has initiated since 2019, the signing of  petitions and to date, it has already collected thousands of signatures and the signatories are from 42 countries.
