Mike Tyson hits passenger on US plane

Mike Tyson hits passenger on US plane 0

Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson repeatedly punched a passenger on a plane about to fly out of San Francisco after reportedly becoming irritated by the man’s attempts to talk to him.

Cell phone footage showed Tyson leaning over the back of his seat and delivering a flurry of blows to the man, who appeared to be left with bruises and some bleeding in the incident on Wednesday.

“Iron Mike” was initially friendly to the passenger and his friend when they boarded the flight but reacted after the man “wouldn’t stop provoking” him, the TMZ entertainment website said.

The man “kept trying to talk” to the 55-year-old fighter, it reported.

“Tyson had enough of the guy behind him talking in his ear… and told him to chill. When the guy didn’t, that’s when the witness says Tyson started to throw several punches at the man’s face.”

Tyson was reported to have walked off the plane before it took off for Florida.

US police, the JetBlue airline and Tyson’s representatives made no immediate comment on Thursday.

Considered one of the best heavyweights of all time, Tyson is also known for his erratic behavior — biting off a piece of Evander Holyfield’s ear in a 1997 bout — and brushes with the law, including a conviction for rape and a cocaine addiction.

Southern Cameroons Crisis: IG says Yaoundé-Moscow military deal can’t frighten Ambazonians

Southern Cameroons Crisis: IG says Yaoundé-Moscow military deal can’t frighten Ambazonians 0

The leadership of the Ambazonian Interim Government has delivered a strong-worded response to belligerent remarks by the CPDM Minister of Communications Sadi Rene.

The spokesman for the Biya Francophone dominated government had claimed that the new Russia-Cameroon military deal will help Yaoundé confront Ambazonian fighters and Boko Haram and that the army was now prepared for action against Southern Cameroons separatists on all fronts.

In response, the Vice President of the Ambazonia Interim Government Dabney Yerima said such vain remarks cannot frighten the Ambazonian people and their resistance.

Nor would French Cameroun-Russia connection discourage the people of Southern Cameroons from keeping up their legitimate struggle against the occupying French Cameroun regime.

“Our Southern Cameroons revolution will continue until we the people of British Southern Cameroons achieve our major goals of liberation and return to our homeland,” Dabney Yerima furthered.

Ever since the French backed Francophone government in Yaoundé announced its so-called military deal with Russia and President Putin, the ruling CPDM crime syndicate has stepped up its deadly aggression across the entire Southern Cameroons territories, prompting Amba fighters to ramp up their resistance operations in response.

Blood of Southern Cameroons martyrs will spark off full-scale confrontation with Yaoundé 0

The Ambazonia Interim Government (IG) has condemned recent killings of nine Southern Cameroonians on the main road linking Bamenda to Wum-the chief town in Menchum Division by Cameroon government forces.

In a statement issued by the IG, Vice President Dabney Yerima stressed that the blood of the Southern Cameroons martyrs will eventually lead to all-out confrontation with French Cameroun and full liberation of the Federal Republic of Ambazonia.

The Yerima statement on Tuesday also stated that the continuation of La Republique du Cameroun crimes against Southern Cameroonians in their homeland will never provide Yaoundé with their so-called one and indivisible Cameroon.

The Ambazonia Interim Government also noted that Biya and his Francophone political elites have exposed their ugly faces and evil intentions by killing thousands of Southern Cameroonians.

Comrade Dabney Yerima then paid homage to Ambazonia fighters, who have stood up against the French Cameroun military, stressing there is no option for dealing with the French backed Francophone occupiers and their crimes unless through a comprehensive confrontation and intensification of resistance.

Elsewhere in the statement, Vice President Dabney Yerima called on Southern Cameroonians in the diaspora from all walks of life to mobilize against Biya and La Republique du Cameroun, as tensions spike in Yaoundé over whom to succeed the 89-year dictator.

Football: Man Utd ‘make life easier’ for Liverpool

Football: Man Utd ‘make life easier’ for Liverpool 0

Mohamed Salah conceded playing against Manchester United this season has been “easy” after scoring twice in a 4-0 thrashing of the Red Devils at Anfield on Tuesday which sent Liverpool top of the Premier League.

Salah also scored a hat-trick as Liverpool ran riot to win 5-0 at Old Trafford when the sides last met in October.

“They make our life easier in the midfield and in the back,” said Salah. “They always try to give us the ball in a one-against-one situation so it makes our life much easier.

“When we defend, we had a clean sheet here and a clean sheet there.”

Salah had not scored for Liverpool from open play since February, but clicked back into form with the space offered by United’s disjointed defence to take his tally for the season to 30.

“I scored many goals for this club, it’s going to keep coming,” Salah added. “The most important thing is the team are winning.”

Victory took Liverpool two points ahead of Manchester City, but the English champions can regain top spot when they host Brighton on Wednesday.

CPDM Crime Syndicate: 89 Africa Cup of Nations Buses Reportedly Missing 0

Two months after the closing ceremony of the 33rd edition of the African Cup of Nations Football played in Cameroon, the buses purchased for the transport of the National teams and delegations that took part in AFCON 2021 remain untraceable according to the Cameroonian daily L’Anecdote.

Of the 90 buses put into circulation for the occasion, only that of the Indomitable Lions remains which the team is using for their home games is identified.

This won’t be the first bad report coming from Cameroon after hosting the 2021 AFCON which saw Senegal winning their first AFCON trophy beating Egypt in the finals.

Reports earlier claimed the Cameroon government is yet to pay some workers of the 2021 AFCON before the mysterious disappearance of 89 buses used for the tournament.

One would have thought that each delegation returned to its country with the bus made available to them.

Eto’o rejects salary as FECAFOOT President 0

Cameroon legend Samuel Eto has rejected salary accorded to him as President of Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) and instead increased remuneration package for the players.

Samuel Eto’o Fils is a former Cameroon football player who currently presides over the Cameroonian Football Federation having taken over from 11 December 2021

Four-time African Footballer of the Year who lifted the UEFA Champions League with Barcelona and Inter Milan was elected President FECAFOOT after garnering 43 votes, ahead of the incumbent president Seidou Mbombo Njoya who received 31 votes.

“We have to bring footballers to the centre of our policies, ” he said afterwards. “It is our role to ensure that those who play this discipline makes a decent living out of it”

According to a report from Africa Awake, the legend promised not to receive salaries as President rather he decided to invest towards players’ wellbeing.

As part of his policies to ensure players earn the right amount for the work,Eto has advocated for high wages for players in Cameroon including the country’s women football league.

He further warned club presidents to pay salaries of local football players promptly, else he will pay them and deduct from clubs if there is any delays.

“The salaries of home-based players are already known. Any club president that does not pay players will no longer receive subsidies.

I’m giving the players the right to press charges against clubs that don’t pay them and FECAFOOT will pay them directly from the subsidies that the clubs in question had to benefit from.

I’ve come to put things in order. I don’t speak; I act. The money I invest in Cameroon football during my tenure must have a convincing outcome.”added former Chelsea striker.

Biya regime deploys troops to Central African Republic border

Biya regime deploys troops to Central African Republic border 0

Cameroon’s military has deployed hundreds of troops to its eastern border with the Central African Republic after CAR rebels this month abducted at least 35 people. The military says the rebels are targeting merchants, farmers, and ranchers and stealing money and cattle.

Cameroon’s military says scores of troops on Monday raided villages and forests on its eastern border with the Central African Republic to free civilians held captive by CAR rebels.

Speaking via a messaging application, Colonel Dominique Njoka says he led troops on the rescue mission in Mbere, a border administrative unit, where rebels were holding hostages.

“When we arrived, unfortunately they [suspected rebels] saw us. So, they opened fire, but we reacted immediately, and, in the confrontation, they ran away. Before running away, they killed one hostage and one was seriously wounded, so he died. However, out of the seven we liberated, five arrived {home} safely. We keep on asking the population to cooperate, to give us information at the appropriate time so that we can react,” he said.

Njoka said some of the rebels escaped across the porous border while others are still hiding in forests in Cameroon.

He said they deployed hundreds of troops to the area to flush out the rebels, who have abducted at least 35 civilians in Cameroon in the past three weeks.

CAR authorities say since March fighting with rebels has increased.

The U.N. peacekeeping mission to the CAR, MINUSCA, last week said rebels pushed out of several towns were hiding on the border with Cameroon.

MINUSCA said the CAR rebels were fighting to control border towns, including Bambari and Alindao.

Authorities say the rebels are crossing the border to escape fighting with the CAR’s military and to steal and abduct for ransom.

Fifty-year-old Cameroonian cattle rancher Bouba Alami said his son was among the freed hostages.

He spoke on Cameroonian media Canal 2 TV and Equinox Radio.

Alami said a strange visitor informed him that his 20-year-old son was in captivity in the forest on the border with the Central African Republic. He said the stranger told him the captors wanted at least a $5,000 ransom for his release but did not tell him where and how the ransom should be paid. Alami said he spent two sleepless nights not knowing how to get in touch with either the abductors or his son.

Cameroon’s military says they were able to free the five hostages after villagers informed them where the rebels were hiding in the forest.

Cameroon shares a more than 900-kilometer-long border with the Central African Republic.

Cameroon this month sent its chief of defense to the border area to mobilize troops to stop the rebels from entering its territory.

The Central African Republic descended into violence in 2013 when then President Francois Bozize was ousted by the Séléka, a coalition from the Muslim minority that accused him of breaking peace deals.

The CAR government in 2020 accused Bozize of supporting rebel attacks, which he denied.

The ongoing fighting has forced close to a million Central Africans to flee neighboring countries, including Cameroon, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Nigeria.

Revealed: Southern Cameroons suffering cholera epidemic

Revealed: Southern Cameroons suffering cholera epidemic 0

MANAOUDA Malachie, Minister for Health informed that so far 4,627 cholera cases with 105 deaths have been reported throughout the country, with the greatest impact in the English-speaking regions of Bamenda and Buea.

Cholera was accentuated by the spread of Covid-19. It is a shocking situation in a disturbed state like ours. Cameroon should review its national health policy in case of crisis, he said.

The disease aggravates the situation in the area, which since 2017 has been experiencing a deadly conflict rooted in colonization by the French and British governments, and the two languages that came with it, French and English.

The army is currently fighting separatist forces in the two English-speaking regions in the northwest and southwest of the country, which has suffered from that cause about 3,000 dead and more than 730,000 displaced civilians. To contain cholera, a vaccination campaign was launched on April 8, during which health workers are going door-to-door to encourage people to get vaccinated.

The wells, often contaminated due to lack of hygiene, have also been ordered to be closed.

African players in Europe: Red-letter day for two-goal Mane

African players in Europe: Red-letter day for two-goal Mane 0

Senegal talisman Sadio Mane scored two goals — one soft and one superb — at the weekend to take Liverpool into the FA Cup final with a 3-2 victory over Manchester City at Wembley.

The Reds will face Chelsea in the May 14 showpiece final — a repeat of the League Cup final won by Liverpool on penalties after a goalless final.

Apart from his Liverpool heroics, Mane helped Senegal win the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in February and qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar one month later.

Here, AFP Sport highlights Africans who starred in European leagues and cup competitions:

ENGLAND

SADIO MANE (Liverpool)

Mane was the difference between Liverpool and Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final as he struck twice in a thrilling win for the Reds. His persistence earned his first and Liverpool’s second goal of the day as he caught City stand-in goalkeeper Zack Steffen in possession to tackle the ball into the net. His second was as sweet as the first was scrappy as Mane volleyed in Thiago Alcantara’s pass to round off a stunning move from Jurgen Klopp’s men.

EMMANUEL DENNIS (Watford)

A 10th Premier League goal of the season for Dennis could not prevent Watford slipping closer to relegation after a 2-1 defeat by Brentford. The Nigerian’s fierce strike that flew in at the near post was controversially allowed to stand despite Senegal’s Ismaila Sarr appearing to be offside in the build-up. A 10th consecutive home defeat leaves the Hornets still six points adrift of safety with just six games to play.

GERMANY

KEVIN-PRINCE BOATENG (Hertha Berlin)

The 35-year-old made his first start since October and bossed midfield as Hertha climbed out of the relegation zone with a 1-0 win at Augsburg. “We needed a figure like Prince. He has shown how important he is for us,” said Hertha coach Felix Magath as the Ghana midfielder threw himself into tackles.

TAIWO AWONIYI (Union Berlin)

Awoniyi shrugged off his marker and banged in his 18th goal for Union this season to open the scoring in a 2-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. The Nigeria striker is a fans’ favourite at Union and threw his playing shirt into the home crowd after being substituted with 10 minutes remaining.

FRANCE

KARL TOKO-EKAMBI (Lyon)

The Cameroon forward, who starred in his country’s run to the Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals on home soil this year, scored twice in Lyon’s 6-1 mauling of Bordeaux. His first goal was a gift after a farcical miskick by the Bordeaux goalkeeper, while his second goal was a delightful chipped finish. Toko-Ekambi has 16 goals this season, including 10 in Ligue 1. Lyon are eighth, four points outside the European qualifying spots.

JODEL DOSSOU (Clermont)

The Benin international equalised in a 1-1 draw at fellow strugglers Metz. It was his second goal in as many games, after Dossou netted in last week’s 6-1 home hammering by Paris Saint-Germain. Clermont are in the relegation play-off place, five points above bottom side Metz and one point from outright safety.

ITALY

M’BALA NZOLA (Spezia)

The Angolan international featured in probably the strangest moment in the weekend’s Serie A action. He was subbed on and then off again just 10 minutes later in Spezia’s 3-1 defeat to Inter Milan because he couldn’t take off his earring. Brought on in the 60th minute with his team a goal down, the 25-year-old was almost immediately stopped by match officials and ordered to remove the jewellery, a task which was beyond both Nzola and the Spezia coaching staff. Eventually he had to admit defeat and coach Thiago Motta was forced to bring on Janis Antiste in his place.
